Boss 302 1st to 4th gear shift skip

I just picked up my Boss 302 on 6/9 (happy, happy, happy) and have 250 miles on it. I think I read somewhere that there is a solenoid in the transmission that forces a 1st gear to 4th gear shift when engine speed is below 3000rpm. I have not yet experienced this and I am fairly certain I have shifted out of 1st below 3000 rpm. The TracKey is supposed to delete this shift skip. Has anyone with more time in their Boss experienced this shiftbskip?

Trans 1 to 4 skip shift

I have about 1200 miles on my Boss. I have had the 1 to 4 shift solenoid engage maybe twice in that time. I originally planned to disconnect the solenoid (there is a "how to" elsewhere on this forum) but decided not to because it is so easy to avoid the 1 to 4 shift. The engine just sounds too good to shift early, so (for me anyway) it is officially No Big Deal.

Thanks, found everything I needed there. Appears the skip-shift is at a much lower rpm than I thought. But I still plan to disconnect when I swap my exhaust discs.

I have 2000 miles on My Boss and have not encountered skip shift, even trying to engauge it.
However, Coming off the back straight away at mid-Ohio, I found I could not shift direct from 5th to 3rd. I had to go throught 4th. I saw the Guy from Ford do that when he was driving my Boss, and I did not understand why, then I experienced it for my self.

I find that I have to purposely drive with a very light foot in order to engage the 1st to 4th skip shift. Sometimes when I see my average mileage hovering in the 15 mpg range, I'll light foot it a time or two. The problem is, as was said above, this car is just too damned fun to keep your foot out of it.

Thank you for the response. You have given me a new goal - driving style to yield avg mpg < 15. I wont have to worry about shift skip and the Boss will be driven for the purpose it was built. What a fun drive!!

Here all this time I though the Boos did not have skip[ shift! I have never had it happen to me yet! Must be the way I drive? I guess I will have to see if I can get the car to do it now.......

I disconnected a fellow LS owner's skip shift yesterday. VERY easy thing to do - especially when the car is cold and on the rack.

My dad and I had the same issue at mid America motorplex. 5th to 3rd got the best of me at the end of the straight. Almost had a new grand sport run into the back of me right after I passed him cause I found 1st. Lol

when I am just cruising around town, I use 2nd, 4th, 6th gears only. 1st gear is way short with the 3.73 rear end, and the motor has monster torque off idle.

Today I was driving around town and just using second from stop lights. No issues at all starting second. I'm still planning on disconnecting skip shift.

When starting in first if skip shift is about to engage you'll see a message where usually seeing millage stating '1 to 4 shift enable for fuel saving' or something like that.

"Advised" by who? I seriously doubt that.

FYI....I disconnected the skip shift on my '11 GT/CS at around 1000 miles or so.....been good and am now at 8700 miles. No issues but you do still get the message about it. Would have thought the Boss would not have had that......
