Alcantara-Covered Steering Wheel?
Alcantara-covered Steering Wheel, is the Alcantara gonna be hard to keep clean?
I know we have body oil on our hands, plus dirt and grime, isn't the Alcantara going to absorb it and start looking like crap in a short time?
Anyone here have first hand experience (Pun intended) with this type of covering on a Steering Wheel?

My experience with Alcantara...we have a 2005 Lexus IS 300 with the tan alcantara seats. They clean up better than leather. Better than cloth too. My son accidentally spilled a Wendy's frosty (chocolate) on the rear seat a few days ago and it was not discovered for a day. My wife was frantic and started cleaning it with a Pamper's baby wipe...it came right off. We let it dry and it was completely clean. We went over it just to be sure, and it is like new again. No stain or anything. The seats still look new after almost 5 years of my son sitting back there - he is 10 now. The tan seat belt is more stained than anything else. And it isn't that bad.
SO, I say the Alcantara is a winner. No fuzz on the surface like suede will do and no stains after years of abuse. So I would not worry about the oil from hands on the steering wheel.

Nothing other than what came on the seats from the factory - I have not applied anything to them in the years we've had the car. It is the wife's and she takes the kid to school every day, plus errands, so there is a lot of accumulated seat time in those alcantara seats.

considering that he has worn through the paint on the wheel at the 6 and 9 positions, I think the Alcantera looks great. It looks almost brand new so it must hold up pretty well.
As to that being the typical BMW owner, that depends. The typical BMW owner that buys new, trades the car in when the leather gets dirty and the typical owner that buys used, would also be making a video on how to repaint the wheel.
