Adding Satellite Radio?

Has anyone added satellite radio to their Boss radio/CD unit? I've noticed this is not a huge undertaking and can be seamlessly integrated into the existing radio unit. I presume the radio unit is pre-set to accept satellite radio -- correct? Welcome advice and comments. Cheers, Scott

This is what I bought, and it works perfectly with the factory radio. Steering wheels controls and all.

Easy install, plugs right in, hardest part was finding a good place for the control box. I mounted antennae under the plastic cowl panel, works great. Still need to get a picture of that for a member here, just been to hot!

Got Sirius in mine as well.
I used this kit: http://www.tss-radio.com/products/is...ury-vehicles-1

Makes my iPod work as well with steering wheel controls.
Install was pretty easy and took about an hour.

Works great!

The iSimple setup looks like a better deal as it costs less and includes iPod control

Do you have to put the external antenna for the Boss or is it built in?

I'd get the iSimple if I did it again. O'well didnt see that when I bought mine.

Yes you need to add an antenna. I put mine under the plastic cowl below the windshield, works great.

If I already had the SCC1 and antenna, wouldn't this kit work with a 2012 model?

Yep, that's exactly what I have in mine.
No idea why it's cheaper.
After a month and a half I have had no issues at all, other than the extra 2 pounds in the car

Good, that's what I ordered, and some new front speakers. That will last until this is finally released, letting me put in my bluetooth and nav unit.

I'm not a big fan of the metra unit.

What is the part number for the antenna? I guess what I am asking is what all do I need to make the sirius work in my 2012? Do I need the 230 dollar kit that has the antenna, or does that cheaper one come with it.

Does the cheaper one control an ipod?

iSimple Gateway +

The iSimple gateway is the interface between stuff and your oem head unit. The LCD screen even works. The SCC1 is the sirius radio that connects to the iSimple and does come with the antenna. The iPod controller is another cable ($15 on amazon) and it plugs into the iSimple as well. Factory radio works like normal, with Sirius and iPod control with this setupnfor me. Even the wheel controls work.

I will say iPod control sucks, you do a lot of scrolling looking for a specific song or artist, but for just plugging in and playing, it's fine.

Great solution! Where did you mount the receiver and gateway?

Placement

I velcroed the gateway in the cavity behind the stock head unit; makes it easier to get in and out for cable installation.

The receiver is behind the passenger kick panel.

And I stuck the antenna on the rear deck between the speakers.

All cables run under the carpet for aesthetics.

My whole install took a few hours, but it was the first time I took the car apart. I'm faster now

Man, it sure would be nice to have some pictures or video of the installation. I am contemplating to install this due to the fact I am sick of corporate radio.

If you have a 2013 with Sync this is your better option even with the price difference. It is a Ford product so you're paying for that.
