See! 3 days is about it if you're driving "flat out" Man my tire budget is through the roof this year. Getting to be best buds with my guy at discounttiresdirect....just ordered another set today

Lol. I'm REALLY glad I ordered the square setup, I rotated them every two sessions so they are all evenly worn, at least.

I need to make these tires last at least one or two more events; no budget for another set in 2011.

275/40/18, on 18x10s, all 4 corners. VERY close to the stock tire diameter.

I had an interesting conversation once with a guy who is an expert on first gen Mustangs and Shelby's ('65-'66). I realized I had the wrong combination after chatting with him, it seemed everyone runs 15x8.5 rear and 15x7 front with these cars in vintage or track day setups. Turns out the car works better "square"...15x7 on all four is better than the split setup and 15x8.5's all around rules. I can't do the math he did to explain it, but it made sense as I heard it. As such I won't alter what the factory did on any vehicles without seeing proof there is a reason for it...gutting a car and changing its balance means a entirely new setup for instance.

As for brakes and cooling, even Porsches and Vettes at twice the money of your Boss cars need improvements to survive the rigors of track use. Nothing gets punished harder by a pro, only tires may get (ab)used harder with those of us who are mere mortals behind the wheel.

What pads and rotors are on the Bosses at MMP? I think they told us but I forgot.

The race shop has confirmed we are running factory rotors with Performance Friction pads on the BTA fleet.

What compound? 01, 06, or 08? Are the running the same for the front and rear?

I read somewhere that the 302r has an upgraded abs module....maybe for this reason??? If I don't brake hard and fast right from the get go but instead gradually but quickly apply the brakes the issue doesn't present itself or it is just slightly noticeable. Basically the car doesn't nose dive as hard and as fast...
im not driving a boss, but in a few 110-40 stops the rear abs has kicked in early. the cars are too light in the rear under extreme braking. im mindful to brake straight if i stop that hard.

***** UPDATE ON BRAKES ***** 10/24/11

I swapped out my pads and rotors for a fresh start. I could have kept the rotors but decided to go with a dedicated street setup and a dedicated track setup. I installed DBA 5000 rotors for the front and DBA 4000 for the rear. For pads I continued to use Hawk and went with a fresh set of DTC 70 for the front and DTC 60 for the rear. I have only put two track days on the new setup, and both days were at VIR running the full course.

I still have a bit of nose dive under heavy braking, but nothing like I experienced before. In fact at his point I consider it a none issue. Also my rear end isn't going crazy like it was before. I haven't had it happen once since swapping out the pads and rotors. I think that my braking bias was way off with the old pad setup, just not enough rear brakes.

However I did have a complete loss of brakes during one run session. The pedal went straight to the floor with no resisitance. It came back on the next pump, but it was quite hairy... This happened a few more times soon after but I expected it was coming and was pumping the brakes and purposefully trying to make it happen. We believe I boiled the fluid but at this point not 100% sure. I know I am hard on brakes... I have ordered new fluid Endless RF 650. In the mean time I am going to do a big bleed on the system.

Yikes what fluid are you running? Yea the 70/60 combo is awesome, but it does create a ton more heat than stock pads. It does require some "moderation" of braking to avoid cooking them off, but I've really had no issues boiling my Super Blue. I'd occasionally get the Brembo LCF600 too hot on my GT500, but it's a heavier car.

Gary-

I am currently running AP Racing 600. Initially I wanted to put in AP Racing 660 but there was a miscommunication during the order. They cut me a good deal so I went with the stuff. I regret it.... AP Racing makes great products but for me I think the 660 is ideal not the 600 I have. I just need something more with as heavy the car is and I am hard on the brakes. I am going with the Endless fluid because it has been recommended by a top shop that I deal with. They swear by the stuff. It is used at the top levels of racing in all forms.... I need to take a look at the rotor paint to see what type of temps they were seeing.....

Cool anxious to hear your results with that fluid. I haven't heard of that one before. I have run the AP racing 5.1 and didn't have any issues with it.

After this weekend I must admit that DTC60 in the front w/ stock rear pads is just not enough brake for this car.

The 60s are almost completely gone, and I have a used set of 70s for the front to get me through next month's event.

I think next year I am going to try PFC01s up front (swap in/out) and put PFC97s in the rear and just leave them there even when DDing and see how it goes.

I have heard great things about the PFC products. Someday I will get around to running them...

I have about 70% pad life in the front and 85% in the rear after two days at VIR on the full course. I am hard on brakes....too hard.... One more thing to work on...

Is this the setup used on the MMP Track Attack cars?

Not certain about MMP, but I know some of the Grand Am teams run this setup.

Yes I believe it is. They run those pads with the stock rotors.

They were when I was there but they are now running two piece rotors on the front. Someone on BMO posted a photo of them.
