Are you actually racing to do what you did to the grill?
If not, put it back, because it looks terrible now.

Yes, I bought this car to track.

The finish on the fiber glass hood is very good. It's a very smooth gelcote.

I agree that a similar high gloss look would match the rest of the black on the car, but I was looking for functionality. And the satin type finish eliminates alot of glare from the hood.
Thanks. Like someone else suggested have the body shop apply the same finish to the roof as they did the hood.

Mammothcar1,
Looks like your are ready for serious racing!
I do like the suggestion of the Roush Grill. It looks like a good compromise between air flow and radiator protection. I'm tracking in the upper midwest so over heating has not been an issue yet. I'm also a Novice so I'm not pushing her as hard as some if you.

Yeah, the Roush grille does look like it is exactly what I need. It offers protection, but the entire unit is open to the airflow.
I love the look of our stock grilles. I even contemplated opening up the fake fogs for more airflow, but I'd rather keep all of my original parts intact for now.

I'm a firm believer in function over form in some cases. And in this case, I'd just rather get as much airflow as possible to the rad on the track.

I hope Ford Racing offers our grill with the light cut out soon, before I end up cutting mine out. Screw the snow ingestion guide lines, I'm in Canada and this thing is sleeping through the winter.

Dean#4AI carefully drilled out each of the divets in the blanks on his LS, so they're more like grills now. It looks really cool, and adds a little bit of breathability.

Wouldnt 2 slimline fans on front side on 24/7 and a Roush grille be enough cooling ?

hood looks good btw..

Buy a spare grille and drill the other out. I personally like the look of the drilled out one.

Drilling out is not enough. In fact, with faux fog lights completely cut-out, the cooling was only marginally improved.

Kendall do you think a Rouse style bar grill will improve cooling enough to make a difference?

We need a racing version of the grill with lights completely cut out and no middle plastic reinforcement so the grill is completely open.

Here's a photo of one from a 302S. Note the vents are not cut out.

Guy, trust me. The COMPLETE cut-out is NOT enough. You must remove the entire OEM grill.

I think so. I want to try one.

I agree I was showing the racing version is not going to work.

Did any of the cars you tested have the 302S hood?

I hope you are wrong on this since I will be getting a new Boss grille any day now. I am planning to not only cut the lights but all the horizontal bars also. I hope that will make a difference. I really don't want to be running around the track withouit a grille.

What is the truth to the cooling fan, does it shut off at 40 MPH or is that a rumor? If that is the case and track key changes this, then maybe a grille mod and track key will be the answer for me.

Stock GT grille surround runs about $60. Drew (06GT) picked up one from Rock Auto. Looks like the part # is AR3Z8419AA if you're interested.

All this talk about cooling, but was the car overheating or something?
