They are plastic with a metal ring. No ones trying to rip them off I've found two laying on my garage floor broken. I guess somehow the wheels contract and expand which weakens the plastic and the tabs break off and the center cap falls out. My dealership is going to replace them on their dime which is good but it's still highly frustrating and they have no explanation.

Wow, that is unreal. Wonder how many other Boss owners are seeing this? Being a track car you would expect a lot of exstremely hot wheels and then a big cool down. Even if driven in the Spring or Fall the temps could be down to 45/50ish and the car could be on the track. Sounds like they overlooked something in the design phase.

Glad they are taking care of you.

I've never gone thru that with any of my center caps. Perhaps you just ended up getting a bad batch that were made during the manufacturing process But at least your dealership has agreed to replace them at no cost to you. Hopefully the new replacements won't end up breaking off again.

From the images you posted, your wheels appear to be aftermarket rather than OEM Boss 302 wheels. So I'm just curious if the original center caps that came with your wheels also broke and if they didn't? it would seem IMO the original center caps are made from a different material over the Ford caps? Anyhow just an idea I thought of. In the meantime, "Happy Thanksgiving" to you and your family.

Nope she's all stock and all parts are OEM. The center caps appeared to have been redesigned inside but neither worked. Trust me nothing caused by me or by cheaping out.

If the replacement caps are also breaking? then we can pretty much rule out the center caps as the cause. I don't know if you would be willing to try this out or not? But I suspect there's a good possibility that it's the wheels themselves that are causing the center caps to break. Therefore I'd consider bringing up to your dealerships general manager that you've been having the very same breakage issues with the replacement center caps and suspect there may somehow be a manufacturers wheel defect that's causing the center caps to break and then find out if they might be willing to work something out by issuing you a credit or discount towards a new wheel set replacement

I wonder if it's the fluctuation in the weather temps causing them to flex and unflex.
Good luck Gary!!!

Tony, I really don't think it's temp fluctuations causing the center caps to break. if it were? you would think other folks would be posting the same issues. IMHO, I think it's some sort of manufacturers defect that's causing the center caps to break. Anyhow. just saying

I'm a little late this year but Miss Scarlett is now in hibernation mode. It's the saddest time of the year for me!

Always sad Tony but remember I like the cold weather. But the later I store her the sooner spring arrives!
