Well everyone has their own bias. If a Boss 302 owner, or perspective owner, posted this in the 2010+ mustang forum they would get blasted by GT owners who would have a long list of reasons why the GT would be the better buy. It's human nature I suppose.
It's just nice Ford gives mustang lovers so many options when it comes to what type of mustang they can buy.

One of the most important considerations, in my opinion, would be the wear and tear on summer only tires. Of course, it depends on where you are located and the climate there.
The Boss tires are not ideal for temperatures that are cooler because the compound will harden and the tires would lose grip. However, depending on where you drive and if you avoid light snow conditions, this would be a non-issue.
As the standard Boss seems to have the same mileage rating at the GT, then there should be some reasonable fuel economy, assuming you don't hammer that throttle

The Boss will be fine as a daily driver in the Mid-A. Just get a set of cheap winter wheels and put some snow tires on them for the winter and you'll be golden.
Don't worry about the tires because these are very easily swapped out. Summers are designed generally to operate above 40 degrees. They are like hockey pucks on a cold morning and take a while to warm up. You have to be extra careful before giving too much throttle or doing any heavy cornering/braking until you get them to temperature. I have driven the last two years on summers year-round and they have been a non-issue for me.
Obviously I do not drive them in the snow, but I've been fine with them in cold weather by keeping my head on straight. I do have some backup cars available, so that helps. If I had to rely on the Mustang every day I would definitely get a dedicated set of winter wheels and tires.

I wouldn't do it, but then I don't use my Cobra as a DD either. That's what the Ram is for. However, if it's your only car, and you have a chance to get your dream Mustang, why should a little poor traction stop you? Buy snow tires and wheels and swap out in the late Fall. It's your dream, I'd follow it.
The Boss 302 was or is the car i was trying to make for myself when i order my GT mustang in late june of this year. At the time i didnt know ford was coming out with the Boss 302. I order a 300A GT . I wanted the lightest GT mustang i could get , the best handling mustang i could get (brembos brake pgk.) and some 3.73 gears help it move along quickly. No sooner that i get my GT (2 weeks later) Bamm!! Boss 302 hits . Now if i had not gotten my 2011 GT already i be trying to get a Boss 302 right now . Ford made it just the way i wanted my GT to be. So now i'am a bit sad but i will say this i love the way my 2011 GT is turning out .I been up grading the parts of the car i thought i needed to be fix to make the car drive the way i want it to drive. I'am very happy with the way it turning out but it would still had been nice to try to get a Boss 302 .
You should get the GT, one less buyer to contend with for a BOSS order spot...
I was thinking about other comparisons such as the regular Corvette vs the Corvette Z06. On the Z06, they add more HP, bigger brakes, better handling, lighten by removing insulation, etc. - it not a true comparison because the Z06 still has all the options available on the regular Vette (except conv't). Also, the Z06 is not limited in availability other than demand and has been built for years.
I am not sure how many folks are using their Z06 as a daily driver. I have a couple of friends with Z06's and they both have other cars for daily driving.
I think the Boss is going to be a very special vehicle, limited quantity, future collectible, (2 yr run only?). That is why I am wondering how many people will buy it to drive daily vs limited use. Of course, this car would be hard to keep in the garage....

Thanks, Tony - the tires are a concern. I live in the DC suburbs and we occasionally get snow. I would either work from home or take public transpo if / when snow arrives. I also know that adhesion decreases in colder weather, but i assumed that I could (a) take it easy or (b) replace the tires at some point. Are the summer compound tires absolutely terrible in 30 degree weather or just less than optimal? I would be grateful for advice, although I don't think that I'll change my mind about the Boss unless it's totally idiotic to use as a daily driver in the mid-Atlantic region. Thoughts?

I have a Boss on order and am planning on driving it Spring through Fall here in Alaska. I thought about the extras on the GT as you talked about, but I really want the extra performance. The Engine is the main reason I am getting it. The driveability should be close to the GT on the street and as folks have pointed out about getting the right tires. One thing in Alaska and the other snow states is that the car sits lower and would create problems with unplowed roads. Folks here have the pony style cars out all year round and I see a lot of them in the winter. I have talked to many who have stories of the car being the DD and only means of getting around and with some carefull driving, did fine for many years. It looks like the real choice is (performance/ limited driving in some weather conditions) VS (not quite the performance / with comfort and a fuller range of driving with weather conditions)
The way I look at it, it's a winner either way you go!

That is my understanding from what I remember from the press release.
Agree!
I also have considered going to the Ford Racing course at Miller Motorsports Park since they use S197 Mustangs in their instruction fleet.

Me too. Always thought that would be fun, even well before the Boss incentive. Just wish flights weren't so expensive...
I went for the loaded GT, and I wouldn't change my mind if I had the option to do it over.
If I really wanted it, I'd just trade my '11 for one.
I'm not into the retro look, and I'm not looking for what many others appreciate in these limited edition cars. Don't get me wrong, I think it's a great package for someone that wants performance over the creature comforts. Also, the very fact that it exists means that Ford is raiding the parts bin and focusing on HP - that is good for all of us!
But I'm not optimistic that these cars are going to appreciate las much like the classics did, and IMO to buy them as collectable or an investment in lieu of driving them may not be a wise choice.
That's just my view on it, and why I'll ultimately be happier with a GT upfitted just the way I wanted it aside from some mods and a better set of gears!
But the Boss is a better fit for someone who wants some more go-fast goodies off the showroom floor, and someone who really wants to have some sort of special designation for their vehicle.

For me the dealbreaker is the glass roof... It seems minor but I really want natural light in the cabin. Can't get a dang sunroof like the camaro has (take away from 'vert sales? yeah right).
Big difference on the z06 exampleabove... z06 doesn't come with a removeable roof like the normal c6/ gs do.
Am I willing to forgo the "sunroof-esque" experience for everything the Boss offers over the GT? At what point does the power "overpower" the comfort options?
I would totally daily drive a Boss, but would not seeing an opening in the roof remind me everyday of my decision?
This is all theory as I'm not even sure if Military Car Sales will get Boss allocations; they are already holding a raffle for an opportunity to purchse one of the now limited 5500 GT500s
We'll see what I get next summer...

I am in the same boat,,I went to a local dealer and inquired about the boss as I am preparing to order a GT premium in Jan. I am fortunate enough to be able to afford a Boss and was considering it for its power, unique qualities and collector status. The dealer completely blew me off like it would be impossible to get. I think I will just order the GT premium although I was left with a bad taste in my mouth by the arrogance the manager portrayed. It is a discrace that if you walk into a dealership in jeans in a sweatshirt you are judged as someone who doesent have money to spend. I will certainly use another dealer to place my order.
