If spending the extra $14k is going to make you lose sleep at night, get the GT.
You won't really enjoy the Boss if you're constantly thinking about the $14k.

I WISH I had your dilema...if the BOSS is what made you go down to the dealership in the first place, that is the right choice. You are settling if you get anything less than what you originally wanted. Especially if you opt for a cheaper much more common car as opposed to a genuine engineered highly rated performance machine. You can proudly display a base BOSS at any car show and have tons of fun. A standard Mustang GT? Who cares. You will enjoy the BOSS more every single day and down the road will have no regrets.

My 2 cents...FWIW

I am 100% different from most owners. I will NEVER sell my GT! For mine to hold its resale value doesn't really matter.

On whether to get the GT or the Boss, I'd say get the Boss. That is if you can! If not, the GT will be a perfect car for you!! Just don't want you to say in a year from now, "I should have bought the Boss 302 when I had the chance.".

Life is short, get you want right now!! You may not see tomorrow? Just saying 1 day I was perfect, next I woke up from a coma!

Add the concern of $4.00 a gallon and he might be one of the many who winds up losing the car or putting it for sale after a few months.

Cars depreciate and the Boss will be no exception. Making a commitment to such amount of money requires a certain resolve.

Comes down to what you want to do. If your not really going to track the car, or mod it per say, then there is no reason to buy a Boss. By mods I mean mod the GT.

With that in mind, you should still have a blast in a premium GT, and save yourself 14k. If you want the exclusiveness of the car, then well your paying the extra 14k for it.

As for me I mulled it over, but I think I will keep my 08 for a bit. I have it just the way I want it, I have the looks, (nothing else in Miami comes close to how my baby look) and most important, when I drive it, it still puts a smile of my face.

and this is the reason I am waiting to buy mine used!

Have you thought of buying a used Boss 302 instead of either car, brand new? why not let someone else take the big depreciation hit for you by driving it off the lot? Even if you spend 30k on the GT, in about 3 years you could easily be upside down in your payment.

Im giving it a year or two before I buy my 2012 Boss; my PREDICTION is that used Boss 302's can be had for very low 30s with the 2013 Bosses out and the 2014 next generation Mustang on the horizon...

I would re-examine the reasons you wanted the Boss in the first place.
I would drive both and really check out the features that are on each.
I would not want to be thinking later that I wished I had picked the Boss.
Yet I would not want to regrest paying that extra price for a car that I
did not really enjoy as much as the creature comforts of the GT.

They are both great and the real choice is your personal preferances and the
price to feed them. Myself is the knowing that a have the Boss engine, and
all the potential that the car has "all" the time while I am driving.

To each his own! Sounds like the dealer is doing great to all you the choice and not try to push just a sale!

If it was any other month it wouldn't be an issue, but laying down $43k and paying taxes this month has made me take note of my spending habits. Like most of you guys this is a hobby and fun money. This would be my fourth sports car, so it's not like it's a daily driver and going to be stuck in traffic like some mentioned.

Like you guys said it's my choice, but I'm having a harder time on this car purchase than any other I've made in my life. I blame the dealer for telling me about the new incentives and that my ford cash would work on a GT....

Because the possibility of it being a box of chocolates is very possible and the likelyhood of being tracked, abused, and/or wrecked is very high unless you find a needle in the haystack which happens not too often.

I agree. If the money is a factor already, that is exactly what I would do, unless I really need the car right away.

I wanted to say just go with the GT but my gut says drive the two cars. The GT really in an incredible car and with a few thousand can be even more so. But the Boss has basically a new engine in it with numersous upgrades that the GT does not have. Not to say you will be able to tell the difference on regular driving but truly you are in a unique situation. At the very least you owe it to yourself to test drive both cars and see what your instinct tells you. Money doesn't make a car, read my AMG thread. Experience makes the car.

Since money is a factor, still drive the two and then ask yourself is it $14k worth it? It might just be, who knows. If it isn't, you still won't be disappointed in a GT.

Not to hijack your thread but I wonder if Ford is reconsidering how many Bosses they are going to build this year. GTs are sitting on lots (even with incentives)...Bosses are selling at full MSRP. If I'm a Ford exec I'm thinking why not make more Bosses and and fewer GTs?

Well, remember the volume Ford is doing...

Sales of the Ford Mustang for March of 2011 were 8,557 compared to 5,829 from March of 2010 showing a 46.8% increase in sales from the previous year. Year to date Mustang sales are 15,419 compared to 15,691 for 2010, which is a 1.7% decrease.
They are still moving 15,000+ cars a quarter and how many Boss 302's have been made so far? ~400

I wouldn't say needle in the haystack. I think they'll be just like GT500s were in the first couple of years. People bought them thinking they would be worth a fortune some day and many of them became garage queens. Before long people came to their senses when the hype wore off, and many realized they had bought a car they really couldn't afford to keep sitting in the garage while waiting for a big payday that was never going to happen. Look around now, its not uncommon to see them with only a few thousand miles (or a few hundred in some cases) that people are begging someone to buy for 20-30 thousand less than they paid with ADMs.

yeah, paying ADM on a Boss 302 isn't cool... I hope they don't get anyone here on the forums with that crap.

If I don't get this one I'll post up the dealer and let you know where one is available for MSRP.
