when will we learn the curb weight?
Well that would be 200lbs more than the current GT.
At this point it just seems like everyone in this thread is just throwing out wild numbers based on absolutely no information whatsoever. I really don't see the point. Just to see who's wild guess was the closest?

I'll take over 200, Bob. Let me know if I make the Showcase Showdown.
Eliminating weight typically leads to increased cost though. I completely agree all sorts of new (and many old) materials are available, but the heavy ones typically are cheapest, and in the end the Mustang is a relatively cheap car, and they have a price cap (for base model at least) that I'm sure drives the design
I work in aerospace and we try to save ounces on every component, but we end up huge amounts of Ti, composite, and various other "exotic" metals to get the properties we need along with hitting weight targets. Additionally, we run FEM on everything to optimize every design to minimal margin of safety as to minimize weight. It's very expensive to do this, and while I'm sure Ford has put in many $$ and hours, I would be quite surprised if they are able to drop hundreds of pounds while hitting their cost targets. At this point in the design, they have excellent weight estimates available, and I would guess they are not publicizing much because those estimates are a bit higher than originally predicted.
But I hope I'm wrong!

Apparently the new M4 is 200lbs skinnier than the outgoing model, despite being slightly larger. On the other hand, I haven't seen the pricing on the new model and whether they're holding the line on pricing.
Now the E92 M3 started at just under $57k when introduced in 2008 and my 2013 M3 based right at 60K, but it came with more standard features that the 08 came with and adjusting for inflation really isnt that bad. Most of us on the M3 boards feel base price will be just under $65k.
BMW said they were going to keep the pricing as close to possible to the outgoing model.

As one other example of trimming the lard while maintaining size, features and affordability, one might peruse the Mazda 6.
I'll throw my thoughts in on a final weight. I'm thinking with the new content and platform change, 3800 lbs. is a nice round number.
Yeah, waiting for the MazdaSpeed variants before interested, but I think the Mazda 6 liposuction is legit, even at its modest HP levels.
The M4 I think might be a closer if not exact apples to apples analogy.

If the new Mustang comes in at 3800 lbs. it would be very disappointing.

From an article on MSNBC about the new F150:
“Part of our strategy is to put all our vehicles on a diet,” Ford Chief Operating Officer Mark Fields told TheDetroitBureau.com, noting the goal is to remove anywhere from 250 to 750 pounds from its various products. Insiders reveal the higher figure was the target for the F-Series remake, though exactly how successful Ford was in reaching that goal remains to be seen.
And I can't remember who said it but some executive said of the 2015 Mustang: "...we met our goals..."
IMO, the Mustang will definitely lose weight. Only question now is how much.

My guess is that at best, the Stang will be at the low end of that scale at best. Were it otherwise, Ford would be rightly trumpeting the weight loss from every hill top. Given their conspicuous silence on the matter, my guess is that whatever weight loss goal they made was a different and lesser one than mentioned in that interview.
