Wheel and Tire Insurance...

I just took order of my car and declined extended warranty options along with separate wheel/tire insurance. I'm guessing that I can go back and add the wheel and tire insurance still...every time I snake by a pot hole, I just cringe since I have the optional 20s.

Is anything related to pot holes or road damage to wheels and tires covered by the factory warrenty? Any advice on this matter?

I actually opted for the wheel and tire insurance as well as the ESP when I purchased mine after getting some information out of the service department. Potholes are pretty bad around here, and I was told this was covered 100%. As long as it is a road hazard that causes the damage, they said they would take care of it. They did warn me though, that driver error such as scraping against a curb, even trying to avoid potholes or road debris, would be declined.

For me though, it is peace of mind. There is always a chance that something can happen, and I hope the dealer stands behind their word and takes care of it should it happen. If I never need it, so be it. If I have to use it 1 time due to a wheel getting bent from something, it is money well spent.

I put the wheel and tire insurance on my last two vehicles and now on my Mustang.

First vehicle was a 2012 Edge Sport, first spring with it I hit a pothole, which blew out the tire and bent the rim. It was completely covered. In fact, I received a bill which showed exact prices with a total amount owed of $0. That rim was over $900 and the tire $350

Second vehicle was a 2013 Fusion titanium, same thing happened except this time it blew out a front tire and put a bulge in the rear, they replaced both tires at a cost of $300 each, of which I paid $0

Pot holes here are pretty bad after the winter, I wasn't aiming for them, sometimes by the time you see them it's too late.

Ok. Could you guys tell me which company you're going through? My dealership is offering plans through INS for ROAD Intire. Google reveals a mixed bag of results, with negative horror stories and pain free dealings alike. I contacted the service department from my dealership, and I spoke with the guy who handles claims. He said that everything is legit and that they don't have major issues or rejections for coverage and process claims frequently. He seemed credible.

I opted to buy only this insurance package. They bundled mine with paintless dent removal for door dings so I get wheel and tire insurance and door ding insurance. I still park way the heck away, but it's nice to have the wheel and paintless dent removal. READ THE CONTRACT FIRST before he adds it to your sale. There are some fine print issues that made me understand there are some limits on the coverage that the finance guy didn't share.

I bought that coverage for my Dodge. Since it wasn't a Chrysler warranty a non-selling dealer wouldn't do anything for my bad tire unless I paid for it then submitted the claim myself. Took it to the dealer where I bought it and they handled everything immediately with no hassle. As long as the dealer is talking to the insurance people, I'll probably do it again.

I can't remember the name of the insurance but, the dealer(s) handle everything. It's through Ford so you can go to any dealer and they pull up the VIN and your all set.

I got it for two reasons - 1) Lots of home construction in my neighborhood, and 2) I didn't get it on my wife's car and she had to have a tire replaced after a week....I think this pretty much guarantees I will not have any issues on my car...
