What can Ford's logic be?
What can Ford's logic be?
I haven't been following the S550's as closely as others here so perhaps this is old news.
Why would Ford delay release of the 2015's until so late in the year? I understand there are tooling issues and converting the S197 factories, but so many people are stoked about the redesign and have already placed orders. By 10/27, summer driving season is long over and it seems Ford is missing an opportunity to get this car in front of the public by not stepping it up a bit, especially for those who placed early orders. Offering a test drive in advance of sale release seems like such a token offer.
This info on was another forum. The red highlights are mine.
At least one lucky Mustang6G member who placed an early order for a 2015 Mustang (in his case, May 20, 2014, the first day order banks opened), has received a phone call from Ford offering atest drive of a factory demo unit of the all-new Mustang that Ford will be bringing to various dealers around the country for this purpose.
The chosen dealerships are claimed to each have the test cars for a few days and the lucky few chosen buyers will be required to sign various disclosure and waiver forms before the privilege — no doubt because they will likely be among the first actual consumers to drive the S550 Mustang, as dealerships are rumored to have been informed by Ford that their “OK to SELL” date is not until October 27, 2014.

I have to agree with mustangfan on that one. I'm not a fan of the 2015 but at least get it right and don't rush it. They did that with the 2012 Focus and it ended up with that craptastic dual clutch transmission.
They didn't recognize the 5/20 date for ordering either.
Pretty typical for them to not confirm anything, IMO. That's not to say that this could be wrong, but it was sent to dealers, so it seems pretty likely that it's true.

Yes, it would be nice to have the '15's out during the summer months when Mustangs typically sell their best. However, it would be a shame if Ford rushed it before the car was fully ready and cars arrived with issues. So, Ford should stay the course, take their time, and make sure the cars are perfect before shipping them out.
Just think of the 2013 1.6L Ecoboost Escape..that thing has had already I believe 4 recalls. One of the reasons I didn't even look at the 1.6L and went straight to the 2.0L when we bought my wife's hers.
