I'm a little confused about swapping out the upper and lower grills on a 2015. It appears that it's widely accepted that you have to take off the front bumper entirely to swap out the upper and lower grills...but has anybody out there simply tried covering the front creases of the car with painter's tape and removing/inserting the grills through the front opening? There are YouTube videos of this being done one 2013/2014s pain free and quick...and also videos claiming that you have to remove the front bumper as well, which doesn't seem to be the case.
Can somebody chime in this or possibly run an experiment to see if you can remove the grills without taking off the front bumper?
Also, has anybody swapped out the ecoboost grill for a GT grill? Would there be any problems from the grill shutters or anything else that would prevent installing a GT upper and lower grill into the ecoboost?
If you look at this picture of the product, you'll see the slots that are along the edge of the grille. This indicates that the grille is installed from the back side of the bumper, which is why it is required to remove the grille. If you try to rip it out from the front, you will rip off the entire bumper the wrong way.
As far as the swapping out the Eco with the GT ones as long they are the same shape, they'll physically go. The grille shutters are not part of the grille itself, but are set behind it, so they'll be fine, as long as the different grille doesn't interfere with their operation, and as shown by the one grille working with all Mustangs in the instructions above.
Here's a video with their operation being shown. Skip to the 6:13 mark.
I know old post but seems they all are here!
Do you guys know how hard it is to line up the bumper cover when you reinstall it? Thanks for any insight.
The bumper cover has tangs and tabs and whatnot, and should go on like it came off... provided no tabs/tangs/holes are busted. There's no adjustments, it's just supposed to 'go on'.
If it's not fitting correctly (aka, one part is bowing out or such), a heat gun may be needed to shape it, or you may need to find some sort of 'upstream' interference that's causing it. A body shop person may be needed that's knowledgeable about such inteferences and how to deal with them.
Sure is, I ordered up a GT upper and lower. I like the way they set back in deeper. Co- worker bought a Shelby so I get to see some drool worthy parts...
