Too Early Out of the Gates?
Was Ford a bit early out of the gates releasing the 2015? Yeah, cool to see the real thing, but since then, sort of chirping crickets. 2015 posts on this board have been reduced to what the key fob will look like! Immensely important, I'm sure, but is that where the discussion should be on such a major model release? Not even any press rides, much less drives, much less numbers.
Anyways, random thoughts given the dearth of actual substantive info...

The new 2015 in person looks much better than the previous mustang... I have a 2011 and can't wait to get my hands on the new one. My current 2011 5.0 has 97,000 miles, I believe it's the highest mileage 5.0 in the country. No problems so far besides it eating oil.

Looks like they unveiled it to be able to take advantage of the autoshow season (jan-apr) so the general public all over the country and to some extent canada and Europe could get a chance to see the car in person. If they waited till April at NYC then they would have missed most of the autoshows around the US. It might be surprising to find out that enthusiasts hungry for details aren't the marketing depts top priority. The auto shows fill the void till full spec and pricing release, June/July we probably get the auto rag press drives. The only actual product news dead spot is probably may... Maybe they will put up build and price then

I responded to some other threads similar in topic with the same sentiments. Show season or not it may have been tough to launch late like they wanted to.
Some may have been the forced hand thing but I do agree with rhumb it's getting stale early and this was my concern. Not the car being stale, just info and/or highlights. But it's an interesting car that I think everyone is very reserved about. I think it's the reason there is no buzz, they are waiting for true release info and test drives. Still feels like its a ways off though. A lot of build up was placed on the car and it has a lot to live up to in the eyes of the enthusiasts and auto rags and reviews. So people are a bit anxious.

A Man Just Needs Some....
I'm hoping they really pump up the advertising after the 50th. Other than the mustang community, no one seems to be buzzing about the new car. I personally don't think the new car is very exciting. Just seems a little more of the same actually. Kinda like the swap from the SN95 to the New Edge. IRS and different sheet metal. Like it or not, it's not enough change to get me excited.

I see that they needed to release it early but it does make this next year (or ever since the release) a long year.
I'm just hoping the reviews, road tests, and comparison tests excite us again. I watched the 5.0, Boss, and Shelby ('11-'13) video reviews almost every day while I had my old GT and when looking for my current Boss.
Hopefully, Mopar will do something big soon to create a rivalry hype. Same with GM. Having the next best thing gets kinda boring when there's nothing to compare it with.

Yeah, I think Ford's early release has resulted in a big loss of momentum and buzz. They'll try to recapture that with actual drives, road tests and the 50th AR and GT350, but in the end, they'll be trying to reignite the intro flame that has pretty much died to a smolder, something that never should have happened.
I think I also would have made the 2015 a bit more modern yet in style, closer to the EVOS concept as I think to untrained, n0n-Mustang-fanatic eyes, the current styling is a bit too close to the current car's. Not that it's bad by any means, but the risk is of the freshness more quickly wearing off and the competitors, both Chevy's Camaro and Dodge's Challenger with 2016 revamp releases, stealing the public's and buyers' attention. Perhaps this will force Ford into a more substantive and deeper refresh in 2017-18 than might otherwise happen or is usually the case in a mid-cycle update.
