Interesting. Is that educated conjecture or fact?

thePill appears fairly well informed, I haven't seen confirmed sources pushing back against his info as speculation/creation. To boil his posts (which you can find at GMI pretty easily) down, 2013 will be a "so long and thanks for the million good memories" refresh and 2014.5 the new 'Stang drops with everything it needs to kick the world's ***. If the suspension and drivetrain details he's posted are accurate, we're in for good times.

Select quotes pulled from posts by thePill at GMI over the last few days:

The 5.8 was initially called the Coyote long stroke and was designed side by side with the Coyote 5.0. It is a 5.0 with a 5.4 deck it is not [a] bored out 5.4, anybody that knows the 5.4 will tell you that boring it out to the maximum 3.70 bore is not a good idea. This engine is intended to replace the 5.4 because the TiVCT is already developed because it uses 5.0 heads and the 5.4 is no longer global (Euro 4 standards discontinued the 5.4 in Australia). It will be lighter than the 5.4 by about 20lbs (without the SC) and will adopt Ford's Getrag MT82 (another 40lbs) and will be cheaper all around.
Disputed, other sources are saying the new mill will indeed be based on the 5.4 and not the 5.0. But it will be an aluminum 5.8 with plenty of goodies.

The Virtual Pivot Control Link, Control Blade IRS and the updated D2C platform is next gen Mustang only. The 5.3 is a Roush/Yates prototype and is probably used because of class limitations. Personally, I am excited about the new D2C (hopefully the DEW Lite 14) with the new suspension system. This will be a very light weight, V8 ready, RWD chassis...
3rd Gen CBIRS is almost as light as a solid rear axle, it was about 30lbs heavier than the SRA used today. There are many different variations of CBIRS but for the most part, it uses compact coilovers that are 1/6th the size and weight of conventional coilovers.
30 pounds heavier would certainly be tolerable. Would actually help weight distribution.

A trailing arms/torque arms are a long suspension arm that attaches between the rear axle housing and the chassis. It is usually made from steel but can be made from Boron, UHSS or aluminum.

It will increase straight-line traction over traditional IRS.
It will provide more rear grip during cornering over traditional IRS.
It will improve corner-exit acceleration over traditional IRS.
It will provide superb control and predictability over traditional IRS.
It will increase wet weather traction over traditional IRS.
It will improve ride quality over traditional IRS just as long as the spring rates are not rock solid.
The Virtual Pivot Control Link is directly from high end European sports cars and is pretty much an improved, lightweight front suspension that seems to have a more compact design. I am still looking into this...

The '14 Mustang will have a chassis that is nearly 300lbs lighter than the D2C once UHSS and Boron are incorporated with aluminum used as needed... Think GM's Alpha only Ford is starting with the Mustang and spreading the chassis to other models.

The 2013 on the other hand is pretty much the fruits of the S197's labor. It might seem like wasteful spending while the Mustang will change a year later but all that tech will transfer over to the ’14 Mustang due to the chassis relationship between the two.

Nope, caveats and pinches of salt abound. But might as well share.

2010 was a rough year for the Marc Mustang GT3, but they did some nice development work. And getting closer to a foundation for a Mustang in ALMS/LMS GT(2) . . . the Ford GTs can't racing much longer.

Since there's now some pushback by other sources on the exact nature of the 5.8 I've edited my earlier post to reflect that.

Very interesting. I've heard rumors of more extensive use of aluminum on upcoming products, so that may hold true. I'd love to see a 300 lb. drop and the IRS on the '15. Now that we've got a capable motor with room to grow, hopefully the engineers are targeting power to weight ratios that are more aggressive, and continue what we've seen with the '11 and '12. I sincerely hope that the IRS outperforms the Boss 302 when it comes out.

I believe it has to do with an age limit set by the rules makers.

I like those polymer hood latches, never have to worry about a hood pin getting bent with those.

thats a pretty sinister looking car...love the frontend except the extra wide splitter/flares, the rear looks good too with the painted lower valence- but the curved rear wheel arches that tuck under in the rear contrast with the flat IMSA front fenders...extending the rear flares down a bit woulda matched better- anyway, sweet racecar, hope they develop the heck out of it

edit- looking at further GT3 videos, man that looks fun... .7G @ 150 mph, 1.2G left and right cornering...bet this is a workout
