Lightbulb How much will the 13 refresh tell us about the 15?

Just wondering what people think we will be able to predict about the 2015 from the upcoming refresh (if anything) or what it might tell us about the direction the Mustang will be heading in.

I think it will at least give us an idea of whether or not things are going to stay really retro design wise or move to a more modern look. I'm also quite curious to see how much of the feedback on the 10+ design will be taken into account in the refresh. For example, will we at least see new tail lights/rear bumper in response to the diaper criticisms?

I am assuming it will be a significant refresh like the 09-10 so I am thinking it might give a good idea of the direction the design language will be going for the 15. Any thoughts?

I think the '13 will be a mild refresh of the '10 body, probably limited to non-metal, non-structural elements, i.e., bumper caps, hood, front fenders and the like. We might get a hint of '15 styling, but it will basically have to comport with the existing '10 restyle. Oh, and yes, the full diaper will undoubtedly be changed.

As for the general direction of the '15 redesign, it's sounding pretty clear that it will be a much more modern interpretation of the Stang's design DNA - still very much a Mustang, but not nearly so retro as the '05/'10.

Mechanically, the chassis will be fully brought up to 21st century, world-class standards, which, of course, means IRS (Control Blade style?) at the very least and perhaps a more capable front strut too, basically that linkage arrangement on the Euro Focus RS. Guess we'll just have to endure ride AND handling excellence.

Would expect it to be 2010 tweaks.
Nowhere near the 09-10 jump...and nothing like the 2015.

I hope it looks like a Miata, so you guys with your nonsensical complaints about the rear, really have something to complain about.

That might just look better.

I seem to remember you posting that the rear end on the 10+ has grown on you. Mr. Antagonizer

Yup. You got me. It's grown on me like a fungus or an ingrown hair might grow, but I would definitely have one if I had room. Chances are pretty good I probably will have one some day. The car not the fungus.

Mr. Antogonizer? I kind of like it. Kind of sounds like "Communnity Organizer"

Maybe I can run for President when I growed upped.

I did not know there will be a re-fresh for 2013 is this true? If so they should work on the interior especially the steering wheel it's too big and ugly.

I'm not convinced there will be much changed for 2013. New wheel choices and LEDs under the front fog lights might appear, but I think the rear and "diaper" will remain. Personally, while the rear of the 2010+ isn't perfect, I don't think it's bad at all.

Regardless, I don't think the 2013 will tell us much, if anything, about the 2015.

I hope we don't have to wait till the end of the year to see what the 2015 will look like. They might wait to show it at the next auto show. Would rather see it early in a magazine.

I just figured a tweaked rear and front fascia, perhaps along with a few other minor changes, would be the gist of what to expect with this refresh. My impression is that this next refresh will be the "ultimate rendition" and last hurrah of the S197 before the all new Nextang makes the scene.

This is what I'm thinking, too

Do you really mean the '15? I reckon we'll see the '13 by the end of the year, but the '15 will be kept very much under cover until much near launch

with the '15 being a major platform overhaul, ie, global. Id expect the '13 to be not much more than special edition's being reborn for a lasting hurrah. Mach1, BULLITT

The only aspect I could see carrying over (if true) could be a trend away from some of the retro tweaks. New gauge font that won't be as "old fashioned as the 10-12's had (think GT500 or Boss 302), but that's about it. Styling wise, just tweaking of the current design to make it look less dated (not that it really is IMO).

Id love to see something similar to the Kenny Brown Mustang make it into production. That hip work was just perfect.

Anyone remember these old concept sketches? I could see something like that rear end ending up on the 2015. The 50th needs to be special so i think i big change would be kool. Plus the challenger's rear lights look wicked with the sequential kit on em and i know that would be a welcome change from the diaper we have now
