I can't say I love the exhaust note. The black one does not sound like a V8 either. Maybe they *are* planning a 3.5TT V6 GT350 model and a 5.8SC GT500?...

The last pass sounded different than the first two.

Here is my assumption on this:

You see the little pipes inside the muffler? I assume those are added to comply with German Noise regulations. I know of a lot of Mustangs in Germany that had to add those. If they are running on the Ring, i am pretty sure they have to do this.
Those will dampen the exhaust note pretty much, so i wouldn't judge from there.

i have a feeling this was shot with a cell phone, and the microphones aren't that great.

Eh the CTS-V prototype behind it sounded glorious. The Mustang sounded very tinny and hollow.

Other possible explanation: two different Mustangs:

"GT500" TT bent crank 5.0 for the louder, lumpier-sounding Stang typical of a bent-crank motor.

"GT350" NA flat crank 5.# for quieter, smoother sounding Stang, reflecting different exhaust pulse nature of flat crank motor.

Noticed a few other possible differences:
  • Wheels were different, not only in style and color, but also offset and widths(?)
  • GT350 didn't seem to have side vents, though perhaps better hidden under different camo. Perhaps more powerful GT500 needs them to shed greater engine heat?
  • Noses looked different, particularly lower valance/grill, perhaps beyond mere camo differences
  • GT350 rear brake didn't have large silver hubs of the GT500 brakes, perhaps slightly smaller to save (unsprung) weight since they wouldn't have the heat load of the faster GT500 to deal with.
  • Front of rocker extensions/flares somewhat different, GT500 has small vertical "tab" behind front wheel opening, GT350 does not (reflecting different front fenders?)

All the above is rank speculation based upon comparing two cars in vid side-by-side. The different exhaust systems explanation is the more likely though, with different prototypes in various states of development and finish.

PS. I think these pics and, especially, videos ought to eliminate any speculation that the 2015 would be some sort of Fusion Coupe or whatever some whiners were whining about -- looks like the 2015 is shaping up to be a very serious performance tool.

I agree 100% Gary.
If SVT builds it with gobs of horsepower/torque, it looks as mean as seen here, has the same stance as seen here, and is stupid fast,...I'll have one.

I think you may be right. The black ones exhaust is much more subdued. Are you nuts though!? The v8 sounding one sounds phenomenal!

Except Lexi, they were two different cars. Might be the same motor and one had the dampeners in place. But I think one was a v8 and the other a ttv6.

Not really feeling the front fascia design, however we still haven't seen the finished product. The lines and flow just seam really weird, I'd love to see someone do a photoshop of it finished. So far I'd take the stock GT front end.

I agree but then I think what will it look like without camo and with paint, possibly sonic blue :-)

I'm surprised this video hasn't been posted yet, but still sounds awesome! Sounds a little different, maybe this is Voodoo, the FPC?

Someone on another forum brought up how this Audi DTM car with a flatplane sounds very similar. Definitely interesting.

I agree, however when the 2015s front was first shown without the camo padding and without paint I knew it was going to look sweet, which it did. I'm trying to visualize the SVT finished but I'm still not sure I'll like it. When I first saw the picture I immediately thought oh man a lot of people are going to dislike it. Then I got on three different forums and the consensus seams to favor it which shocked me. It might grow on me after seeing the finished product but for now I can't understand why they are going with this design. It's certainly different I'll give them that.
