S550 supercharged can I CAM it?

I have a 2016 Warrior Roush and a 2009 429R roush both are supercharged. I put a ford racing cam in my 2009 Roush and I absolutely love the sound, it is just a 4.6 but I have it setting at 475 RWHP which is not bad for a 3V but I am in love with the sound from the CAM. By 2016 is the 5.0 supercharged setting at 712 RWHP but I’ve been told by 2 major performance shops and many online users that you can not CAM the S550 without experiencing tuning issues and engine cut out unless you are at 1,000 hp our higher. I do not care about the money. I do not care that it will not be worth the small hp gains I only want it for the sound I would pay 2k, 3k, 4k, 5k I really don’t care I just want my S550 to have the CAM sound and yes I have heard of the ghost tune but was told you can’t run that tune while driving in a supercharged S550 without issues and most who do it only flash it while it’s setting at idol and flash it back when they go to drive. I was told that the S550 simply don’t work well when supercharged with a CAM and I do not understand why this is not something that could be done with the right amount of money and an expert that understands how to do it. Is anyone out there that knows of someone who has done a CAM on a 2015-2017 gt mustang that has a Supercharger and has a nice cam with that lob we all want? Know if a user or expert that has successfully done this? Any info will help.

my email address is Jorose95@gmail.com if anyone can help me obtain this and is willing to contact me.

I would contact the cam manufacturers to see if they make them. Then see If they can reccommend and installer. Is Brenspeed still around?

yes they are around and I was told in a supercharged S550 any chopped cam will not work well with low cruising speed and stop and go at lights. It will never run smoothly and I want to make 100% sure that is the case as if it is not I will pay for that service gladly. I’m hunting for someone on here that has done this exact thing

Hello Jland7,

I hope you got your message answered. I have a very badass 2003 380R, it is supercharged too and I am in the process of investigating if I can cam it. I read that you have a 429R and you cammed it. Did you do this yourself or had it professionally done?

Do you have to tune after you cam it? If so, how do you go about getting the Roush tune again?

I want to do it but afraid I will mess something up. Thanks in advance!

You may want to consider contacting Jland7 via private message, as his last forum activity was from nearly a year ago on 11/13/23... In the meantime, welcome aboard.

My basic understanding of this is that yes, you can "cam" a supercharged car; but the cam cut needs to be compatible with the boosted application. Lopey cam designed for naturally aspirated engine is probably not a good choice because it is not designed to work with boost and I'm guessing the boost exaggerates the lope to the point that it could make the car almost undriveable. I would talk with some cam suppliers directly about this.

Regarding the tune -- yes I believe it will need to be tuned for any change of cams. You will need a tuner to do that for you. They will start with your existing Roush tune, and modify it from there. So you might start by looking around for a local tuner to work with; and then discuss with them this whole thing and see what they suggest.
