I often hear "wow, cool color... never seen one like this", and "why did you get purple". I know a 1997 GT is far from exotic but because the color is so rare it does stand out more than your average red or black mustang.

Personally I think Ford needs to offer many more colors than they do now. I'd like to see purple, bright yellow, bright orange, dark green and a teal blue or green like the 94-95 Mustangs.

I bet Ford won't do it because it is not a big seller, when I bought mine I think I got a huge discount because of the color.
I hated that color when new, but now I love it. I agree. And the thing is, they offer colors like these on their other cars! The Edge has the best color palette, IMO. I want to see Aqua Marine Blue and Bordeaux Reserve and Kodiak Brown on the Mustang! Even better, I'd love to see those colors offered with Saddle and Stone interior (and add in the dark Brown leather offered on the Edge/Explorer etc...make Saddle ACTUAL saddle leather as used on the King Ranch trucks) on the GT500. Make it an even more luxurious offering to steal BMW/Audi/Mercedes sales.

Just a little extra info guys, they only made 2462 97s this color. They made a bit more in 1996 with 4769. I'm thinking Ford probably doesn't think it is worth the trouble of offering a color that sold only 7231 units in two model years. On a side note I'd like to see a burnt orange color like the current corvette, and old camaro offered.

I love the burnt orange too, but it doesn't age very well. Ford also has a similar color already in its palette for the F-Series and Expeditions...

I really like that color purple. There's an orange mustang in that body style that parks at my school and It looks like It's close to Header Orange. At a car show, I was talking to a guy and he mentioned a color called Vitamin C orange. I assume it would be close to Header Orange.

Yeah I know that color, even more rare than purple. It was a one model year color for 1997 named Autumn Orange. I like it, but I like the metallic, burnt orange look better.

It's funny cause the 96/97 Mustang in purple pictured above was actually one of the first Mustangs I ever wanted. The first being a red 64 1/5 convertible. I was in Middle school when the SN95 started to some out.

I'm toying with the idea of buying a new Dodge Charger AWD R/T and for 2013 they dropped the burnt orange color ! From what I gather for 2013 the only colors for the Charger this year is Red, Black, White and a Pearl White. I hate that you can't custom order colors like back in the day.

Thanks for the compliment I bought my purple GT when I was in High School in 2000. We must be close in age my dream car in middle/high school was a Yellow 98 Cobra. In college it became a Sonic Blue 03 Cobra... then a 07 White GT500 now a 13 Grabber Blue GT500.... I just need the cash and garage space to make it happen lol!

Its funny how people trash talk the 1994-98 Mustang, but it really is the casr that got me into Mustangs. I still remember my older cousin bought a brand new GT back in 1994 when the SN95 first came out and have been hooked on late model Mustangs ever since. I always loved the classic 1965-73 cars but never saw myself owning one. The 1994 car gave me a car to save up for when I was in middle and high school.

We might be, Im 28. I've always been a fan of the 94-98 models. I dated this girl and her mom had what became the Mustang I wanted the most of those model years, a 96 blue GT. I always asked if i could take it for a spin and a car wash. But of course she declined. I also got into building model cars and airplanes in middle school, so i had a Mustang painted up to all of my likings, purple, blue, black and hunter green. I do agree these models are usually looked down to compared to other Mustangs.

I love purple. Ford needs to come out with a deep metallic purple - on the blue side/ but not so dark it looks black - and not an egg plant either - with a sporty package ( better than California pkg) - BOSS 302 - great navigation and sound system!!!!

Panting at the thought. Common 2014/15!!

I could go for purple as well. It would be distinctive that is for sure.
