No TT5.0 for the GT500 says Ford
In recent months, rumors have been rampant that the next generation of Ford's Shelby GT500 Mustang would dump the existing 5.4-liter supercharged V8 in favor of a twin-turbo version of the new 5.0-liter Coyote V8 that debuts this spring. Unfortunately, in spite of earlier reports confirming the development, it appears that such an engine will not be installed in the GT500 any time soon. Autoblog had the chance to talk with Mike Harrison, Ford's chief engineer for the 5.0-liter and 6.2-liter V8 engines this morning, and he made it clear that the mooted engine is not part of the program for the Blue Oval bomber.
Looks like it's gonna be the 5.4AL for a while, anyway.

Like I said before the 5.4 has legs still.
and who's to say its not a supercharged hopped up 5L?
or a different platform in the future that COULD accomodate such engines.
We'll have to wait and see.
Regardless the Shelby won't be power starved..

Note: the reasoning they use is that they cannot fit the turbos in the current design. that says nothing about the 2014 redesign. I wouldn't have expected it in this generation of the car anyway. Next gen all bets are off. The engine will probably be mounted further back in the chassis for balance or at least the wheels pushed forward a bit for better balance and also you get more clearance on either side of the engine.

I think this might make the centrifugal blower and turbo makers of the world a bit disappointed if there is that little room inside the engine bay of the '11 GT. But, the positive-displacement guys ought to be jumping up and down in excitement.

So we get the Al block 5.4 this year and they ride it out a bit more, then switch to the S/C 5.0 in the near future, big deal...they're going to keep the power on a level that we haven't seen yet, and that's what we want. The SAE article mentioned specifics on points that were not used but would easily accommodate a blower down the road. The Coyote/Road Runner motors will all make sense soon enough...

Most likely will be a Eaton-type blower sitting on a version of the 5.0L in the future is what it sounds like. Since Ford already has a lot of experience with that setup. Continuing the legacy that started with the '03-'04 Cobras. Any idea how far the 5.0 can be bored/stroked?

I understand the concept (and potential) of a TT 5.0 appeals to many—however, the only severe criticism of the GT500 motor was the weight of the iron block. Horsepower was/is not much of an issue for the 5.4—540HP is more than adequate for a street machine. (Hello Officer! No I don’t know how fast I was going, but I’ll bet you’re just dying to tell me!) And the 5.4 at 540 is certainly not maxing out the engine’s potential. Shelby’s (high-priced) Super Snake packages seem to have little trouble generating 630-HP from the 5.4 and the issues with the 750HP edition have little to do with the motor, but rather the price and how to get it to hook up.
I’ll admit I’d be excited to see a TT5.0, but for now, the move to the AL block could prove interesting. I am curious to see performance tests of the GT500 with about 100-lbs of weight removed from the front-end. The lighter weight and change in weight distribution should make a noticeable difference in handling as well as straight-line performance.

Would be even more interesting to compare the weights of the Al S/C 5.4 V8 against a TT - or even better yet, a TT CGI block version of the Coyote with internals to match.

Agreed, my biggest complaint was the weight of the iron block - if the alum is durable (and I'm betting it will be) then the alum block 5.4 is going to be a GREAT engine. I have a tt 535i and while it's only 300hhp I much preferred the S/C in my GT500 due to the "INSTANT ON" rush when hitting WOT! Now an equal hp tt would be more of an apples-to-apples comparison but you still have to wait for the turbos to spin up. Funny how BMW claims they mostly eleminated turbo lag by using two smaller turbos - vs one large one - but it's really still there...

I don't know for sure... but he didn't seem to know how to disagree or make his point without being over abrasive. Some replies he was a jack ****. Then the finger pic on that other thread was way overkill to make his point. However, I hope the mods pm'd warnings to him rather than just booting him.
Nothing wrong with good debate and pointed conversation. But when it breaks down to 4th grade stuff and tit for tat it gets old for those of us trying to learn or contribute something. IMO

Were getting pretty close to an all new Mustang so I wnder if Ford is going to doing any more development on the 5.4 mill? And I'm not talking anything major but a new cylinderhead based on the 5.0 (including VVT) would make for a nice upgrade to the current engine.
