The New Mustang Goes Into Mass Production

With news that the 2015 Mustang has kicked into full production, it won't be long before you see it on the streets, or better yet, in your driveway.

Anticipation continues to mount for the S550’s street debut. The coupe is scheduled to officially go on sale Sept. 9 with the convertible model expected to follow October 27, according to an In Auto News report.

The line-up includes the base-model V6, which is expected to have about 300 horsepower and 270 lb-ft of torque; the 2.3L four-cylinder EcoBoost, which should crank out at least 305 horsepower and 300 lb-ft. of torque; and the GT model, which features a 5.0L V8 that will sing from the belly with at least 420 horsepower and 396 lb-ft. of torque.

Woe, suddenly the numbers on the ecoboost dropped 5 hp and 20 ft lbs of torque? What gives? That thing is looking less and less like an advantage over the V6 all the time.

These are the estimates, before the official numbers were released.

I remember when TMS was to source for all things Mustang back on the early S197 days. Mustang6G is the spot for S550 news now. Maybe TMS can get back on track dome day.

Agree 100%, TMS has basically become a S197 loyalist forum.... It's hard to go through one thread here discussing something about the s550 without someone foolishly interjecting even if it's not on topic something about fusion, ugly, euro, Sra is better.... And so on

Times sure do change don't they?

The S550 section will be busier when the new car hits the streets.
We still have a very active forum with a lot of smart, technical, and passionate set of members. A lot that cross-site post. It's not uncommon for users to jump from site to site.

Just like any forum that starts around a new launch, other model specific sites have that as their focus (much like TMS when the S197 was launching) don't have the previous gen 'activists' to content with.

Some sites get information from membership that may or may not be leaked, and while we all want to hear about things first, peoples jobs and lives are very important to us.

I've been around here a long time, and I've seen people come and go.
It really is a great community. Long may it continue.

I don't have a specific answer on the number, like if its an internal sequence number and how it's chosen.

Code/project name:SN95,S197 and S550, etc.
S=sport, 95/197/550=project number/code

It's not the chassis platform though.
D2C is the chassis that the S197s rode on.

Oh heck, there's nothing wrong with this forum and there are plenty of S550 fans posting here. It could be worse. I quit posting at blue oval news because the entire forum is nothing but hardcore fanboys who think that Ford is the breath of God or something. If anyone ever dared to say anything about any Ford product that was even remotely critical they would pretty much start with the non stop insults against you. It was like "how dare you say something critical of Ford. Ford is perfect and all other car brands are absolute garbage." They were just ridiculous so I don't bother posting there anyone more. Zero objectivity. By comparison this place is much more enlightened and far more friendly as a general rule. I've posted a bit over at Mustang 6G and make no mistake, they will not tolerate any dissenting views about the S550. Unless you have only the highest praise and sing glory hallelujah to the car every time you post there you might as well not bother. I like the S550 too but I've just never been one to pretend that a car is perfect and that there are not short comings. Every car has short comings, you just have to find the one that has the least short comings for you and go from there. If you can't be free to discuss the pros and cons of this car or any car regardless of the forum than what you have is a pointless forum with no real exchange of ideas and no real objectivity. That's my take on it anyway. But by all means if you don't believe me than feel free to go over the Mustang 6G and say something negative about the S550. I'd rather keep company with people who appreciate and discuss all the aspects of a given car both good and bad. Otherwise its just The Emperors New Clothes.

Constructive criticism is welcome, but there's far too much "FusionStang" bashing here at the moment, but I'm hoping that changes as the car becomes more widely seen and appreciated. Personally, I see the best in each and every Mustang, from every era, but there are only certain ones I'd want in my garage

Is S550 perfect? Of course not. The Mustang has to appeal to a wide range of buyers and enthusiasts.

Would I change things on S550? Yes, yes I would, and I've even started a thread over there on what I'd like to see for the next refresh......perhaps I'll start one here, too.............in fact, I think I will

There is a lot of Fusion/Stang comments because to many that's what they see when they look at the car. People are entitled to dislike the look of a particular generation car. Its not going to change anything now but depending on sales that may cause Ford to rethink its exterior design. To those who love their S197 model, keep it. Nobody is forcing you to sell it. For those who love the 2015 design , buy it.

Enthusiasts have their favorite years and generation mustangs so its all good.

It's the people who continually come into multiple threads and convey their opinion over and over. We get it, you don't like it.

Funny how history repeats itself over and over.
Same thing happened in 05, 10, 13...15... etc.

While there are some that might portray themselves that way, I also see the reverse happening, which is "S197 is the best, S550 is <insert your insult here>". That, I think is part of the reason why there is backlash.

That all said, the things that really matter, in my opinion, are offering opinions without the "mine is better than yours" attitude or without the "this <insert whatever here> sucks" over and over and over and over again.
