Mount/attach rear license place

My wife and I just picked up our new 2016 Mustang GT yesterday. We are ecstatic about this car. We loved our 2012, but this car is night and day different in almost every way possible! We love it!

So, as silly as it may seem, I am not sure how to attach my rear plate. I have the plate screws and kit, and mounted up the front plate holder no problem (Colorado requires a front plate), but I want to confirm where to put the screws in for the back plate before I just go putting holes in the car.

Can you please verify, do I just use the holes I've identified in the black circles here? The holes are not tapped, hence my hesitation to use this location before I confirm with you.

Thank you in advance for the assistance.

Just like the small impressions in the front fascia for that plate, the rear fascia has those dimples molded into it to align the plate left to right so it looks perfect. Took my plate off on rear to put a vanity plate on and the screws went right into the dimples.

Just to be sure for your peace of mind, put your plate up to the dimples. The top holes in the plate should line up perfectly with the dimples.

Too late Gonzales he mounted his front plate. He wrote the post about the REAR plate not the front. The muscle mount is for the FRONT plate NOT the rear one.

Thank you for the reply.

So, just to verify, do NOT use the location I circled in my original picture? Use the dimples like that were on the front bumper?

I just looked at mine. Definitely use the location marked in your photo. Sorry about the confusion. The rear dimples are most likely for foreign country plate locating.

Ok, cool. Thank you for checking. Those smaller dimples below the ones I circled are what were throwing me.

I assume I can just use the license plate bolts provided, and self-tap right into the location?

Thanks again for all the help!

Yes, that's what my dealer did who used the self tap bolts into the circled areas. Just don't over tighten or you can make the holes too big.

FYI, I used the holes I circled in the original post and can confirm that is where the mounting screws go.

I did drill a tiny pilot hole with a very small drill bit first, just to make sure my screw driver didn't slip as I was applying pressure to get the threads started. That would suck if I did slip and scratch our rear bumper!

Thanks again for the feedback.
