Lug Nut Torque - 2015

I was going to install my locking lug nuts that came with the security package and the manual indicates 150 Foot Pounds of torque.

Any techs who can verify that figure. It seems high. All of the other cars have 100 or less. My last manual had the wrong oil filter listed, so I am wondering if this is a typo.

Thanks in advance for any advice/information.

That does seem really high. Only time I've seen torque specs in that range is for heavy duty vehicles like trucks and cargo vans.

Myself, I'd torque them to 100 ft lbs as the previous models wanted, and check after a couple hundred miles.

What size are the lugs and studs? If the lug is a 22mm and the stud diameter is 14mm they possibly would require around that amount of torque. Ford has also used a 21mm lug on a 14mm stud IIRC which required 150 ft/lbs on their trucks.

Cadillac has a few cars using that combo (essentially a GM truck stud and nut) but I believe it was in a 5 lug application compared to some of their 6 lug cars using a smaller 19mm lug (STS-V and CTS-V) although Honda on its truck and minivan as well as an Acura car uses that combo and only requires 94 ft/lbs of torque in a 5 lug application.

The studs do appear to be a different size. I think 14x1.5. I guess that would explain the difference.

studs and lug nuts are diff than the 10-14. larger and metric...maybe 14mm?
could be right....i had to stand on the wrench to get one lug nut loosed to find out that my black lug nuts do not fit.

I went back to the manual and it states they are Metric, Bolt Size: M14X1.5, Torque: 150 LbFt (204Nm)

Thanks to everyone that replied. I will have to go to the dealer this week and pick up my spare tire kit and will talk to the techs and see what they have on their system.

I sent a PM to Deysha last night and received an answer this afternoon. Wow! talk about great customer service..here is her answer:

The lug nut torque on the 2015 Mustang is higher than the prior Mustangs because the size of the wheel lug bolts increased from 12 inch (12.7 mm) to 14 mm. in diameter.

The correct torque for the 14 mm wheel nuts is 150 lb.ft (204 Nm). I hope this helps. Have a great day!

can you tell us what prompted the change in the lug nut size?

I would "assume" it is the world wide sales of the Mustang. We are the only country not using the metric system.

So This means that wheels from a 2011 - 2014 will not fit due to different lug nut size?
