Local dealer wants $5000 over MSRP for Anniv.

in 5-10 years, no one will care about these "numbered" cars.
for the extra money they don't give you nothing more then stickers, few addons and different wheels.
I don't know, I like to get my moneys worth, not getting overcharged with stuff that don't add to the experience.

I had the same thing happen. When I discussed the car and told him what I wanted we discussed price he said MSRP should be in the 46-48 range from what he could guess. We'll I got a call earlier this week and he said he had the pricing and would need my deposit....I replied not problem. So what is the price of it and he quoted 53 and some change. I knew 48 and change was the MSRP so I said it stickers at 53... He replied no it is 5000.00 over sticker. I told him I was was willing to give a 10,000 deposit for purchase at sticker and he said not even interested. I told him let him find a fool to pay his price

And I'm afraid he will find that fool. At our Dealership, we do not mark up ANY vehicle over MSRP currently. It doesn't matter if it is a base model 320i or a $153,000 B7 Alpina. The only vehicle we are going to have an additional sticker on is the new I8 when it comes in. That is a VERY unique and special car though.
There are local Domestic Dealerships that mark up EVERY vehicle on the lot. It makes no sense to me at all.
The only way to stop that kind of stuff is for those vehicles to sit on the lots and rot with no buyers - and you know that is not going to happen. Someone will pay the money. They always do.

You must misunderstand my opinion about this. I say rock out and Godspeed to the person who wants to spend that kind of money. I think its great. If they have the money then by all means spend away. There is a sucker born every minute and thank god for them so I say spend away.

I could maybe see this on a camaro forum or challenger for but you own a mustang and are bashing people for buying mustangs. Seems like you want negative responses to your posts?? You say it's great they have the money, then you say a sucker is born every minute? You contradict yourself an awful lot.

Sorry bro, I'm a bit lost with your point. I'm in no way contradicting myself! The only reason dealerships charge thousands over MSRP is because people are foolish enough to pay! With that said, rock out for those people willing to pay thousands over MSRP for any make and model. Godspeed to them! Your point is screwy!

Local dealer will probably get $5k ADM because some local fool will pay it.

History shows that "limited edition" anything is worth not a penny more than non-limited edition anything, as long as the stuff that makes it "limited edition" is just stickers and badges, which it always is these days. If the limited edition included increased performance, then that would be a different story.
How much is a 25th anniversary Z03 package 1992 Camaro worth? Not a **** dime more than any non-25th anniversary 1992 Camaro.

Exactly. Some people say "Well, it's the only car that has the auto + PP" but I assure you, next year or the year after Ford will re-add that packaging to regular GTs and the LE will be exactly what it is - stickers, badges, and fluff.

We Mustang fans should know that there is something more than just the "value of the car". If you analyze it much you will see that buying a Mustang is no the smartest thing in the world. You can buy used cars that are faster or more reliable, practical and depreciate less. However we spend our hard earn money to buy one. And we are so stupid that after buying it we keep spending even more money on appearance or performance mods knowing fully well that we never going to get that money back for that stuff. In some cases they may actually hurt the depreciation value of the car. Some even buy one just keep it garaged more than drive it.
So why we do it? Because we like it, we enjoy it, we live it. We become attached to our cars. For some it becomes something of a sentimental value. We work hard for our money and cars is sometime our only reward for some of us. When I bought my Mustang I would arrive from work and immediately take my car for a spin just for the hell of it, at night!!! I absolutely love my car and I like driving it any chance I get. I even spend money to garage during winter. I don't have to but I preferred to do so because don't want to expose my car to the harsh winters months. All this for a car that depreciate more than most cars on the road. My car is nothing especial, a V6 with MCA+PP+NAV package, but for me it feels especial and that is all that matters. Will it be worth more than a regular V6 when it comes time for me sell it? Doubt it but don't freaking care because I enjoying my car right now. I like knowing that there are not many Mustang with that combination of options. I love the way my car looks. I like the fact my car turns heads. My car sometimes becomes topic of conversation among my friends and siblings. Did I mention that my car is just a V6?
That is why I don't make fun, bully or try to put down people more privilege than me (or not) when they buy these so call "especial edition" cars. Because I personally understand what they are buy it. They are buying something that makes then feel happy and feels special to them even if they have to overspend to get it. If it doest hurt you wallet and want it, I say buy it. When my father suddenly die last year of a chronic illness one thing became clear to me. Life is too short and life needs to be enjoyed now!! Not later. Live within your means but do and buy the stuff that makes you happy. That is one of the reason we work. Is not the value of the car, is the enjoyment you get from them.
