Of course it was no accident. Common sense says the s197 was squarely aimed at baby boomers and those who love the 60's models. So it's only logical to exclude the foxes from marketing of the s197. Ford wanted to draw a direct line to its heritage from the 60's not the 80's and 90's.

 

I think whoever said kids born in the 80s generally don't like foxes is off a decade. Like me and a few others chiming in being born early 80s we grew up just as the Foxes were being replaced with the softer and heavier sn95 from Ford. But that meant cheaper used foxes and everyone knew the fox was a much better platform for tuning. So in the mid to late 90s I remember them running around everywhere and everyone still wanted one. You don't see them near as much today but they still have a huge and loyal cult following. But my point is kids born in the 80s and older might appreciate them more and kids born in the 90s growing up with the new edge and s197s running around when they turned teenagers might see them and be confused and or hate them. All it takes is a few car shows and or trips to the drag strip and I'd wager most could be won over.
