So to extrapolate further, if only 4.2% of Ford vehicles are Mustang GT's, then that means a 1-mpg change in the Mustang will only cause a 0.042mpg change in Ford's CAFE average mpg.

This basically means the only way for the Mustang GT to even cause a 1-mpg change in the CAFE average is by increasing or decreasing by over 20mpg.

A 45 mpg Mustang GT would increase Ford's average MPG by 1-mpg.

A 5 mpg Mustang GT would decrease Ford's average MPG by 1-mpg.

Don't worry guys.. Ford will not be turning the Mustang GT into an expensive and exotic gas sipping 45mpg V8 by 2015 for 1-mpg of their CAFE average.. they'll have a much easier time squeezing out more MPG out of their high volume cars.

Thus the reason the Fiesta, Focus, Taurus, C-Max, F-150 are such a big deal. Get those numbers up and Ford will have an easier time with the CAFE standards.

You didn't think I could come to Detroit and not post pics of a bunch of Mustangs, did you? I couldn't get much out of J Mays about the next generation of the Mustang, slated to launch as a 50th anniversary model (expect smaller, IRS). I asked if the current version will get any sheetmetal tweaks before that time, and mentioned that a lot of Mustang enthusiasts weren't terribly pleased with the posterior of the 2010 and 2011 cars. Mays said that they closely monitor the feedback in the forums and that no one should be surprised if there are some tweaks before the launch of the next generation car.

Guess that answers that one, then

Obviously the 50th Anniversary Mustangs will be new-made 1965 models available straight from Ford. Now that would be big!

what i would like to see for 2014
gt
1) less weight even if only 100 pounds (every bit counts)
2) introduction of DI if not alrady in use by then
3) more power (not nec. peak hp but broader powerband)
4) optional irs just so magazines will shut up. ( but if they do it do it right, should be a big improvement not small so to justify it) personally i think ford has done a fine job with sra and think there is still room for improvement.
5) stay ahead of the competition
6) higher mpg not by much maby 1 mpg city 2 highway
gt500/svt/ cobra whatever you want to call it
1) 5.0
2) twins baby (turbos) would be nice to se a form of vgt style turbo
3) DI
4) Kife edged forged crank
5) forged rods and pistons
6) Inconel valves
7) High rpm
8) optional irs
9) Decent compression 10.5 to 1 or higher
10) methanol injection whether it be DI or PI
11) water to Air intercooler
12) kick corvettes butt
13) keep up the good work and make sure the 5.4's replacement gives the competition nightmares

Post 1 has a summary of the suggestions. I don't expect everything, but I hope we get at least 50% of those

the corvette thing might of been a little bit of a stretch seeing as how they have there special models too. but i just really want a bullet proof engine. Does not have to have 1500hp from the factory but i would like to be able to easily increase the hp without worrying bout internals. (not saying the current 5.4s dont do well at this. just would like it to continue and improve)

Ace, I think you're wishes are a little higher than the Mustang is prepared to deliver. I do agree with some of them though.

yeah i guess i should of said wish list. I know certain things are a little unrealistic without keeping the mustang affordable and being able to make a profit. Such as twin vgt turbos. would be awesome for a boosted application but not likely going to happen, and if it did it would prob be single vgt turbo. I like most people know the ones that are bound to happen but its nice to throw new ideas out there every once in a while. Im new to forums never really joined one but i do veiw them quite often so forgive me if im wrong but i am assuming psn is powerstroke nation.

i have not heard much on the "bobcat engines" (ecoboost with DMI) lately, i was wondering if ford is still messing with this technology or if they decided it did not have a future. I for one would love to see it in any ford. I also think it would really kick off in the aftermarket.

Don't be, I was thinking the same thing. I don't post that much on PSN. I prefer FTE. Seem to be more mature there.

Anyway...

Kind of a side note, not really a leak. I caught the torture test of the 3.7L Ecoboost F-150 engine on Jalopnik, and I must say, I'm really starting to be very OK with an Ecoboost 3.7L in the Mustang. Though I'll admit, I would always miss the sound of the 5.0L.

This seems to be one of those things you read something about, then never again. I'm still waiting to hear more about factory four-point seat belts that Ford was experimenting with a few years ago.
