launching, times, shifting
Hey TMS people, im back with a 15 GT base 6spd. Love the car, love the ride quality. Ive only had it since Friday so I'm still learning the car. I tried launch control and timed a 1/4 mile pass. Tach confuses me a little bit. Is red line 6500 or 7000? What rpm y'all launching at? I tried a couple of passes and did 13.4 on stock everything, asphalt no burnout. I think I may be shifting too early. Any one have any experiences or input

If you bought the car for 1/4 mile times, you should've got an 11-14' GT. If you got the car for road racing, you should've got a 15' Camaro. Both are eating the 15' GT in these respected areas.

Look on the bright side. If the OP bought it for Drag racing wait a while Ford Racing has a Solid Axel upgrade for those who want to Drag Race..

Or, check out the Ford Racing .99 video and you'll see that they offer heavy duty half shafts and a rear subframe upgrade so that the IRS can survive under repeated drag racing. I suspect there will some diehard drag racers who buy '15's and campaign them successfully against those of us with '11-'14 GT's.

Lesson learned. I guess if someone buys a 2015 GT and they have any interest at all in quarter mile times, they better keep their thoughts to themselves.
Bert, I'm not into drag racing so I have no advice on technique. I can say though, that the redline on your engine is 7000 rpm. As long as the engine is good and warm, feel free to wind it out. The Coyote loves to howl.

Lol no dumping at 7k , thank good sirs thats what I wanted to know, as for 1/4 mile I'll probably still do it but I do like carving as well. Thanks and can't wait to see what platform is capable of.

If you turn off all of the nannies, with your GT, launching at even 4k will likely just make the tires spin and cause you to go nowhere....

With stock everything the recommended launch RPM for my 2014 GT TP was 1800. I guess you could start there and work your way up. With 275s on the back you might be able to launch at 2000, but I'd guess that anything over ~2500 you'll spin and hop. This depends on how quickly you get off the clutch of course, but I'm assuming ~0.4s to fully disengage clutch.
I've gotten some good 0-60 time on my car with 275s all around launching at 2700 and taking ~0.8s to let the clutch out. Good luck and let us know what worked best with the new setup on these cars

OP, I think tire size and type on the base GT is going to limit grip quite a bit.

What are you shifting at? I've had my car at an 1/8th mile track and I sping through almost all the gears. I've tried different approaches but nothing seems to work well with the stock Pirelli tires (probably part of the problem). Although they seem to grip pretty good on regular streets when I take my chances at a good 0-60 run or push it in some corners.

For best times I shift at 6600, since the Coyote makes peak power at 6500rpm. If I roooooooooolll onto the throttle in second I can avoid spin. For 3rd I up-lift during the shift, then floor it.
