Subaru makes a Horizontally opposed 4, but I've never heard of or seen a V4.
Twin turbos on a 4 would be too much. You can run 18 psi out of a 2.0 with a single garrett T25. More boost then that and you'd better have spare parts stocked.

So did Honda but it was a motorcycle engine. I had a V45 Sabre in the early 80s.
Oh, and then there is this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Taunus_V4_engine

I want whatever you are smoking
V6 twin turbo with 400 horsepower with IRS would price out around $40,000 assuming similar pricing from a SHO; Hardly Mid level.
I presume you were not thinking $30K for the 550 TT GT500 either, as that would probably more like 50-60K.
The point in my line up was to keep mustangs affordable, not put them beyond the reach of anyone.
Although... I did not include the GT500 in my lineup.
I guess if you include the GT500 in my line up it would go
Entry level 2.0 Turbo with 210hp 6 speed IRS @ 22K
Mid level V6 with 300 hp 6 speed and IRS@ 25K
Then bring in the 5.0 @ 400 for 30K
GT500 with S/C 5.0 @ 550 for 45K

Problem is that 'base' turbo four would likely cost at least as much to build as the V6 model does. Ford might do it anyway if they thought it would let them move the V6 further upmarket, but I seriously doubt it would actually cost less to build.

I would like to see base 3.5L (263 hp), 3.5L EcoBoost (365 hp), 5.0L (412 hp) and whatever do put in a Shelby.
New 2.0L EcoBoost (230 hp, 240 lb ft torque) just wouldn't be right for a Mustang. Ford should offer it in a new 2011 Focus.

I suggested this as well. Either way, I see a market for a more "base" level Mustang than a 305hp V6. Maybe it's just me though. Obviousy times are changing.

personally, I think if they offer a 4 cylinder, they need to do the 'pony' thing again like in the pintos...a max MPG variant that will maybe not be very fast, BUT max economy possible at a low cost (and probably still more powerful/cheaper than a prius...)
I think with todays technology 45-50 mpg wouldnt be out of the question- if power level kept low enough, perhaps younger crowd could afford insurance easier too.
with the coming 35 mpg ecoboost v6, the only real reasons for a 4 would be cost and substantial MPG- both could get a lot more entry level sales to boost volume- every Ford sold is one less buyer for the competition right? why not offer a stripper mustang with fiesta MPG?
