Every generation is going to bring aesthetic elements that someone's going to dislike. With the 2010+, obviously, you have its rear end; the 2005+ had its too-vertical, too-high front end, boring hood, boring rear, boring sides, needs more scoops, blah blah. When the 2014-15 is released, there'll be something for people to complain about, don't worry.

why does that 'look like a Mustang'? it dont look like any that were ever built, yet it looks like a mustang, even in a sketch...I think thats where ford got lost on the 10- I love the 10+ except for its puffed out/angled taillight rear end...just a little concave, just a little more vertical, and a roughly rectangular taillamp pattern and viola! it looks like a Mustang. I sure hope the aftermarket comes up with some way to 're-mustang' the 10+ rearend...and sure hope Ford steps back a bit before the 14/15 redesign

IMHO, it should either continue on the success of the '05 using the "retro" styling or cover new ground. No in between like the '10s did.
Maintain the classic Mustang cues - tribar taillights, long hood - short deck, two door (Charger ) and RWD live axle V8. IRS ok as long as it's strong.

Agree with the Charger thought. Dodge REALLY did no justice to the Charger nameplate. 4 doors, a truck grille? Nothing like the beautiful '68 - '69 Chargers. Total injustice.

remember the R/T concept from a couple years before the production version arived? it was a 4 door, but the rear doors were kinda hidden like a RX8, it was a sharp looking car...then the yuck model came out...GM did similar with the Volt- while I didnt care for the looks of either, a lot of folks I knew wanted one- till the malibu looking production change came out. I bet a lot of folks were disappointed when the 05 mustang came on the heels of the very well recieved concept- but I liked the 5 better than the concept

I really like the '05 concept. I did, however, realize, that concept cars very seldom look exactly like the production version. Pretty close on the '05. It obviously was a big hit with enthusiasts.

Question: did Ford even conduct any focus groups to see if the rear treatment was acceptable? My guess is no. The treatment is accepted by a large segment of Mustang enthusiasts, but at the same time, there is another huge chunk who loathes it. The design people were given a standing order to make the Mustang appear smaller, lower, tighter, etc., overall. What it appears to me is they lopped corners and scrunched it all in towards the middle some. Love the swoopier nose where it gets scrunched down, but still nice. The rear looks like an afterthought or the design had to conform to structural criteria that couldn't be changed.
Look, everything about the car is way better than the '05 - '09, except for that one thing. That one thing, sadly, is a big deal.

I agree.
I own a 1965 car.
Some guys give me **** because the car is slow at Road America. Then I own a couple of SN95 cars, and a new 2010 car.
Yet, some people complain about something or other about every Mustang. They should just buy a $125K ZR1 Corvette and learn how to drive it properly.

with the new 12 second 5.0, think theyre gonna do ok, but IMO the 'reasons I bought it' % numbers for looks/performance/comfort/handling/cost are going to shift a lot compared to 05-09 buyers.
the 05 is still my second favorite mustang body- second to the 1969 fastback...I really HOPE the 2014 can be a new #1 for me...to do that though, I think the body needs some more lines- loosing the hockey stick would be a plus, a true fastback with 69-ish quarter glass would be a plus, some more pronounced creases that follow something would be nice too- I love the way the 69 fender top line kinda followed right back to the top of the fake quarter scoop, which wrappped back cleanly into the side crease...aside from the 10 rearend Ive sounded like a broken record about, my second least favorite thing on the new one is the lack of definition of the wheel arches...the 'flares' are just a smooth baloon in the metal, and the little disappearing into nothing/reappearing from nothing into nothing side crease doesnt call out to me much...the car looks great, but the bodyside lines just seem kinda bland for lack of better words...I didnt love the huge flare creases on the 05s, but att least it had SOME definition that followed a body contour.
the front end is very traditional mustang, the hood is a huge improvement over the 05 slab hood, but I do think a center spear similar to Fang/Foose/69-70 woulda been less cowl induction chevelle looking than the new hood- BUT I still like the new hood a lot
I'd still love to see Ford offer optional sheetmetal- how many 05-09 owners mighta considered trading up to their favorite looking body with revamped interior and powertrain- on a flex assembly line it coulda been a very minimal cost for Ford to offer, by just carrying over the old steel, I think it coulda been a very unique/smart move- plus the safest way to test the waters on restyling over a existing chassis...

also still I think a more 69-ish take on it could be even better

For me- one of two ways:
An exact replica of a 1970 fastback...
...or something new, stylish, agressive yet tasteful, with a few obvious hints of the Mustang DNA.

You take that car, add IRS, the 5.0 engine, the 2010/2011 interior, with an option to have a saddle or stone interior w/ premier trim....
I would sell my soul for a car like that.
