Honest Opinion on the new Mustangs, latest body mods

I'm sorry, but this car doesn't look like a Mustang to me. The only vaguely familiar parts are the tail lights and the pony. Anyone else feel this way or is it love as long as it has a Mustang on it?

There are a million threads about the '15. Some of the comments are very productive, some not so. The topic is getting beaten to death, sadly.

Folks here are pretty defensive about their S197's, myself included. I personally didn't like it at first, so I bought a '14 GT convertible in May.

I've come around a bit. While I certainly have no buyers remorse, I am starting to appreciate the S550 for what it is. I am anxious to see a convertible up close and personal in the Spring....that's where my preference lies.

I think given a little time, all the broohaha will settle down and we'll all get used to seeing them. As more and more appear here on the forum with wheel and suspension mods, I suspect some of the naysayers might become true believers.

At the end of the day, it's all 1964 DNA.

But whatever you do, DO NOT...I repeat...DO NOT use F*sion and Mustang in the same sentence!!!!!

Having my '15 sitting next to my '66 GT Fastback, yes. I can see the evolution between them. The slope of the roof line, the rear glass, tail lights, dash pad and the fold down rear seat to name a few.
What I do find off the evolution scale is the dual hood and roof body lines creases used to stiffen the extremely thin sheet metal used.
If they had left the roof smooth and a center raised hood I peronally think there woups have been less push back. Currently the hood reminds me of an over exaggeration of the '95 hood. Yea, I just contradicted myself! LOL! OK, just the roof lines....

I like the 15GT a lot better than my 13GT looks & driving. In fact there isn't one thing I like about my 13 better. I can hardly wait to see what the GT350 is all about. Just an opinion & yes this subject HAS been beaten to death !! Scott

I've read this countless times and I honestly don't understand it. The S550 looks as much a Mustang as the S197 to me. Some of the cues are gone, but there are a few design choices that are more Mustang heritage than the S197 IMO. The greenhouse lines trailing into the fastback look at the decklid and the taillight design are more classic Mustang than the greenhouse and tail of the S197's.

You can go here or here or here to read some lengthy discussions on what people think of the styling.

I couldn't agree more concerning the greenhouse and tailight design having more mustang heritage over the S-197 which IMO was the only design feature I felt was definitely missing on the 05-14 models was that Ford didn't quite go retro enough in the styling dept.

As Ford should had designed the greenhouse on the S-197 as a true fastback rather than the approach they took by just stretching the roofline of a SN-95 coupe and morphing it into a partial fastback..

The greenhouse lines just didn't have enough vertical slope trailing into the decklid and IMHO made the rear section look incomplete and unfinished as far as I'm concerned..

On the other hand however, the greenhouse styling on the S-197 has far more in common with the 65-66 fastback models that also included horizontal decklids, where as the lines on the S550 are nearly identical with the 67-70 models that sloped completely vertical into the decklid..

With that said, I consider the S-197 and the S550 as both sharing the Mustang's classic DNA and still cannot decide which one I like better over the other and perhaps I never will as Ford definitely hit a home run with both models..

Kudos Ford for keeping the Mustang heritage alive and here's to another great 50+years

Don't say Fustang, Fusionang, Musion All in one word. It's growing on me as well. I'm starting to like the 15 S550 for all its new changes. It's cool any way you put it.

I'm curious, do the Fox Mustangs look like Mustangs to you? When the 1979 model came out, it looked nothing like all the previous models. But for many people, those are their favorite models. The S550 looks more like a Mustang than the Foxes did.

By the way, I had a 1979 Mustang.

I think Curtis should win the Internet today. The Fox Mustangs were current when I became of driving age and, not knowing cars but knowing what a classic Mustang looked like (because it was a classic), I remember saying to myself, "THAT'S a Mustang? What happened?" So even though I prefer the 2014 (at least until I see the 15s in person), I guess I should be delighted that the 15s resemble a classic Mustang as closely as they do. We could have gotten a retro Fox instead.

That's very accurate indeed Berzerk, as I owned 3 Fox body Mustangs prior to purchasing my first S-197 in which my last one was a black 93 SVT Cobra, they most definitely had very little in common with any of the classic Mustangs in the styling and design cue dept.

My guess is that Ford's reason behind this was intentional and was more than likely due that Ford wanted to distance themselves as much as they could from the Mustang II despite the fact that sales were actually improving during the 78 model year, but overall it just wasn't enough to save the car beyond it's dismal 4 year production run..

So along came the all new Fox body Mustang based off the Fairmont/Zephyer platform with it's modern aerodynamic design of it's era ends up becoming the longest lived generation in Mustang history with a 14 year production run in which sales remained strong to the very end..

At any rate, it wouldn't surprise me in the least bit if the next major re-design for the Mustang just might be an all new modern version of the Fox body platform

I had a 08 Mustang gt, and the dealer brought a 2013 Gt to my house so I could try it,I compared them side by side , and It didnt convince me,loved my 08 to much, and it wasnt a stock car either btw,but now that I saw a 2015,I oredered right away, I got the Racing Red 50th edition and let me say one thing about the car , It drives like a champ, didnt think the handling could be so much better !!! The seats are so close to recaros,I wouldnt buy any other ones, with them you have air condition, air bags, and yes, they are electric and I drove it first off the dealer to a curvey mountain road, and I would actually enjoy traveling with this car,it drives so good!! Power Im not impressed but comin from a bolt ons ,trans uograded , supercharged car I know why Interior looks so much better now,and the shifter on the manual is short, your arm has the exact right fit to rest since the cupholders are moved to the side and the compartment door is level with the rest

Perhaps you mean the 50th Anniversary package? Much different than the LE which is available only in Kona Blue and Wimbledon White.
