Glass top ?

No 2015 or newer Mustangs come with a glass roof option. If it has a glass roof your stupid saleslady just sold you a 2014 model.

Yeah it's a '15 with the black roof. She tried telling me on the phone today that it was a glass roof lol, which would've been awesome. I'm trying to post of a picture of it but it won't let me. It's competition orange GT premium with performance package.

If it has a glass top and is a 2015 model, it had to be a custom install. So I would check it thoroughly to make sure a quality job was done and the structure of the roof was not weakened. The curvature and creases in the roof would make it difficult for a sun roof or glass top to be installed.

The Black roof wasn't an option on the '15s. That option became availabe on the '16's. So if it really is a '15, the roof was painted after the fact. Might want to find out about who did it and if there is any warranty.

Based on previous sales there probably was not a huge enough take rate to tool up for a glass roof with very limited sales. It's hard enough to afford a V8 model these days so people will skip what's not important.

So exactly why won't the roof of an S550 allow for a glass section ? This doesn't make any sense, as there really doesn't appear to be that much of a difference between the S550 roof over the S197 except for perhaps having just a bit more of a slope

The Glasstop is awesome, one of the best things I put on my car. Very glad I ordered mine with that option. When the day comes that I want to replace this car with something else it will be very tough to not get a car with a similar option.
As to the S550's the roof is not smooth. It is raised on the outsides and lowered in the center section. Seems like it might be a little tougher to make a Glasstop to match, but I think it should be do able.

As a previous owner of a 2007 and 2010 with sunroofs and current owner of a 2015, the slope of the 2015 roof where a sunroof would go is significantly different. The high point of the roof on the 2015 is further back than on previous models. The curve of the 2015 reminds me of the original Shelby Cobra hardtop they used for racing. Putting a sunroof just past the high point would put it to far back on the roof to be practical.

I don't see why a glass roof cannot be offered due to the roof contour. Just because teh steel roof has a dip doesn't mean the glass roof also has to have the same dip. You are literally replacing the roof, so the new roof can do without the dip.
But the dip can be replicated in glass. It would be a pricey piece, though.

I totally agree as they would replace the entire roof to begin with anyhow

I forgot you had a Glass Roof too! The raised/lowered section wouldn't matter because they'd just replace it with smooth glass. I think the front section where it meets the windshield is more the problem. I think they're developing a sliding pano roof to offer a Targa top version. I think = I hope lol. The GR is what kept me in a 2014, otherwise I'd be driving a 2015.

A limited number of GT500 owners with lots of disposable income doesn't necessarily make a business case for bringing back a glass roof unless they want to pay more for it. The business case has to reflect the take rate for all Mustang coupes to make it an afforable option and amortize tooling costs. No one knows if the previous glass roof was a bust because of tooling costs vs. the take rate. Ford may also have had to cut it out of the developmental budget to make the rest of the car better.
Personally I don't care about the glass roof. If I want to look at the sky I'll buy a convertible. If I had a glass roof it would spend virtually all of it's time with the shade pulled shut!

I thought the Glass Roof was an idiotic waste of $2k...and then I sat in one and drove it. I'll never purchase another car without that clear roof over my head. It makes the driving experience so much more engaging. I do wish it opened, but sometimes I'm glad it doesn't (like when my 2005 Escape sunroof broke a few months ago).
