Gear Ratio...315/331/355 in an Ecoboost auto?
Gear Ratio...315/331/355 in an Ecoboost auto?
Hi,
I'm about to place an order but am a bit hung-up on gear ratios. I'm getting an Ecoboost Premium with an auto transmission, but am a bit confused with the online generator. It lists .331s as standard for the Premium, yet the descriptions only mention availability with manuals.
...point in case, does anybody know if the .331s are standard on auto Ecoboost Premiums? Also, which gearing would be best suited for a daily driver of the three?

3.31 is std. EB Manual
3.15 is std. EB Auto
3.55 is std. EB PP Manual or Auto
Does not matter Base or Premium and Performance Package only comes with the 3.55's.
There are no other gear options from the factory.
IMO for a DD I'd stick with a non PP car.

The improved brakes came in VERY handy the other night driving home from being up in the hills. Deer in the road forced me to need to stop quickly, and boy did she slow down fast.
Sure running 65ish in a 45 zone at night on a twisty road may not have been the smartest thing I did that day, but she was handling it very well and it just felt good.

And the acceleration is nice to have when driving in downtown traffic. The Performance Package was a requirement on MY list, even for my DD.

I would have bought the PP if it had UHP AS tires instead of summer tires. The weather in Atlanta is such that you do not need snow tires (you just stay home when it snows), but wet and cold enough in the winter that summer tires would not be a good match. I had the All Season P-Zero Nero on my 2010 Mustang that I found to be really good year round tires. If they had them available on the PP, I would have bought it.
Gear wise, I DD with 3.73s... its not difficult and well worth it when you want to punch it. I used to DD a base 5.0 with the base gears and it wasn't any better... well it wasn't noticeable at least.
PP would always be a requirement on my list. You really never hear any regrets.
