While echoing the "if true" caveat, there are several take aways from the Becker quote:

Stephan Becker’s quote:
The rumor is 100% true – Before CS passed he had Ford fly in and meet with him & Traci Smith (President, CSL) in California - CSL (Carroll Shelby Licensing) and he personally signed the deal for the GT 350 to be made along side the GT 500, in Detroit, when the new body-style debuts in 2014/15.

One: That there will be a GT 350. I suspect this would occupy a similar spot to the current Boss, i.e., a high-winding track/road racer with a tuned 5.0. Of course, that would supplant any future Boss 302, which disappears in MY 2014 anyway.

Two: That there will also be the return of the GT 500. I would surmise that this would continue to occupy its current spot in the Mustang lineup, perhaps with a new TT 5.0 for economy or carrying over the current SC 5.7 to save on development costs all being lumped into the first year intro (with perhaps a subsequent TT 5.0 follow-on as standards get tighter in upcoming years).

Three: That all these will be launched in the first model year of the new platform, 2015/15.

Not sure about this.

Shelby is already doing the GT 350. Why would they diminish thier own product line up - even if it is a post title car?

Because of the expense involved...more profitable to be in the parts business. See this story.

Interesting. So which will consider 'real' GT 350s. The Shelby ones or the Fords?

I think Shelby would make a performance upgrade like GT350 Super Snake.

Sounds like Shelby will be announcing the Shelby Focus at Detroit in January, so that would take the production space if Ford builds the GT350.

Guess it's unlikely we'd see the new GT350 as a '15MY, perhaps a year or 18 months later.

Sounds interesting though. Wonder if there would still be a GT500 or if this would take its place?

Sounds to me like a replacement of the Boss. Ford always said the Boss would be 2 years only. A GT350 would be the same type of car the Boss was as a road track car and as usual the GT500 is the power player.

V6,GT,GT350,GT500. Those variants allow room for everyone's likes.

Yep, sounds plausible to me.

Mind you, I'm still not 100% clear if the V6 will still be in the line-up, or if the rumoured Ecoboost 4 is going to be replacing it as the base engine.

A GT350 would be right in my range. Unique enough such that I wouldn't be tempted to mod it insanely like I have with my V6. And right in my price range I'd be willing to spend.

This will likely be an ongoing debate. Does using Ford Racing-branded parts on Shelby-(partially)assembled vehicles seem more "real" than Ford-assembled but Shelby-branded vehicles?

So long as they aren't sitting in someone's imagination, I'd say there are BOTH real!

True, I just used V6 outta habit. Base car could equal V6 or turbo 4.

I'm not trying to be rude but, who cares? This debate goes back to the 1980s and 90s when people first started restoring these cars. Technically speaking Shelby sold off all involvement of the Shelby Mustang after the 1967 model year. Ford built the 1968-70 models in house. At the end of the day these models are highly valuable too!

If we look at the new comparisons the Ford built 2007-13 GT500s tend to be a better bargain even with ADMs compared to the Shelby GT, GT350s I have seen. To this day I see Shelby GTs that had an MSRP about the same as a GT500 sell for the same price as a regular GT or Bullitt Mustang.

I think this is less about what it is or isn't and more about if people like and want it.
