Custom Tune with Rev Matching on Automatic?
Custom Tune with Rev Matching on Automatic?
I got a custom tune a few weeks ago and after some trial and error, I've figured out that it's down-shifting hard because it doesn't have rev-matching.
I really like the way the stock tune downshifts while in Sport and Track mode. It has a little growl, and the engine gently slows you down. It's accelerating that I don't like with the stock tune.
But this new tune I got makes it feel like the brakes have been firmly pressed. It'll throw you forward.
Was curious, would this be an issue with this particular tune, or can you not rev-match downshifting when you do a custom tune? I would have figured if it was possible, this dealer would have included it. Not sure why anyone wouldn't want it?
Do you guys have tunes with Rev-matching when it downshifts, with that growl it makes? If so, who'd you go with for the tune?

You can probably ask your tuner to turn rev-match on downshifts back on. Most of the time people want to tune this out, but there is no technical reason you can't keep it on with a custom tune.
P.S. My M2 has rev-matching when all stability nannies are on, and you can turn it off by switching all traction and stability systems off. It also has rev matching for upshifts. It holds the RPM at the right level for next gear but you can also switch it off with stability and traction control off.

AH. Thanks for the info. Hopefully they'll come back with what I'm looking for. I like the rev-match with the stock tune, and this is my daily driver. So without that rev match, I was getting kind of annoyed with the feeling like I was slamming on the brakes when slowing down several times during my commute. (going from 3rd to 2nd, at around 20mph). So I've been driving in normal mode all week, which isn't as fun, but less annoying.
All I wanted was quick get-up-and-go speed, with stock downshift.
So is it as easy as turning on that option? I was just assuming or picturing that they'd have to code that back in, or however they do it.

I think it is different for manuals and automatics -- you have an automatic, 5.Monster was talking about a manual; I think they had it earlier on the automatics and it just came out on the manuals in 2019 (but I am not sure)
Oh yeah, thanks to Bert for the correction. I was thinking manual indeed.
For the Autos rev-matching is standard, but there is an adjustment factor called shift stiffness. Sounds like you don't like the higher shifting stiffness in your current tune. It makes the shifts (up or down) faster but harder due to less engine intervention. Still should be tunable by software.
