Could this be the New 2016 Mustang GT500?

Word on the street is that a camouflaged Mustang recently spotted in Santa Monica might very well be the prototype for the high-performance replacement for the Shelby GT500.

About the only exterior details that could be identified on the heavily camo’ed car was a bulge on the hood, Michelin Pilot Super Sports summer performance tires, and a quad-tip, double-barrel exhaust.

Some details spotted on the interior of the prototype really have people buzzing. Unlike the 2014 Mustang Shelby GT500, which has a redline of 6,350 rpm, the prototype recently spotted in Santa Monica showed a redline of 6,500.

I'm just wondering why no one has ever tried to steal one of these bad boys while they're in traffic...

Could be filming for the new transformers movie and the vehicle might transform into a Decepticon. I don't know. Just an idea

Over-rev on the 2013/14 GT500? IIRC it can't sustain that engine speed except for a brief time after which the computer lowers the rev limit.

Yes
But if the car is running and you look in the car it looks like a 7000rpm red line

That's what I'm saying
The red bar between 6250 and 7000 disappears

These mules have been spotted (and posted) for almost a year now. Where have you been?

The overev is complete nonsense. The tach is the exact same from the 2015 GT that you can find in ultra HD on fords 2015 mustang website. Sloppy journalism

C'mon TMS? GT500? Whilst nothing is certain until Ford officially releases it, all evidence points to this being a GT350

Either way, it's good to see it

The sound is raspy enough that It has to be a more "track oriented" SE rather than a top of the line model. That's my opinion at least.

I guess a question or three:

Is there going to be both a GT500 and a GT350?

Will the GT350 have a rumored flat crank and resultant very different exhaust note (queue Ferrari V8 soundtracks)?

Than what mill would a GT500 have, given the clearly bent-crank soundtrack on these bids?

I take my gt500 to 7k often... not in a gear past 3rd though lol. You have 8 seconds in the over rev range. I can't think of any time I would ever have my gt500, which is pushing 725rwhp, above the 6250 mark for more than a second or two. To me 8 seconds is an eternity with these cars. A stock 13/14 can reach 100mph in 7.7 seconds.... really makes that 8 seconds seem like a very long time haha.

Well you know that 8 seconds can make or break the leap from 199 to 200 mph

If Whipple can fit a 2.9 with a jackshaft under the hood of a 2015 then a smaller blower can certainly fit in there.

True, though ford hit 200mph at 6400 rpm. Not much into the over rev.

Initial thoughts from Autoblog shots:
  • 6.5K redline, with possible 7K over rev: probably a turbo/supercharged version of the 5.0 (or some displacement variant thereof). If it were a flat-plane screamer as had been rumored, the redline would be well on the far side of 7K. Big hood bulge also means they're cramming some machinery in the V, be it a supercharger or in-the-V turbo layout as seems more common these days. Blown motors tend not to have Dremel tool redlines.
  • Some serious brakes: ceramics up front and floating disks in out back. Must be anticipating some serious speed to bleed off.
  • Hood and fender vents, but we already knew that.
  • Couldn't make out the tire sizes, but definitely some serious Michelin meats around some new wheels.
  • Can't tell for sure, but fenders might be modestly flared, ala various M cars, to fit said big meats.
I guess one thing I'm wondering is if there might be both a Boss-replacing, road-racing GT350 and a more halo-car mega-power GT500 in the style of the current GT500? I would think there would be ample room for both these distinctive cars in the lineup.

I believe the previous shots showed 265/35 front and 295/35 rears...
