BULLIT

Thought we could start a thread for the Bullit, not that it's a whole lot different than a GT, but there are a few differences.

Does anybody have a recommendation for an aftermarket air cleaner? Thanks

Are you talking about the filter, or the entire intake? Does it already have a different intake from the regular GT, or is it the same? (earlier Bullitts had an "upgraded" FRPP intake but I'm not sure about the current one)

It comes with a "Cold air intake" similar to a K&N but the motor has the Voodoo intake manifold from the GT350 and I'm guessing the air filter/intake is from the GT350 as well. I've seen some comments that K&N filters aren't very good at filtering but are good for airflow (Racing Applications). I've not heard that before so I'll need to do more research. Thanks

I'm pretty sure that GT350 intake is very good, probably nothing significantly better out there. Personally I would probably just maintain the filter per the normal instructions; I am not sure if it is a replaceable paper filter or if it is the cleanable and re-oiled kind.

I know from all I have read on the stock intakes... Unless you have changed the air flow and added some kind of tune or forced induction it is not going to make a significant change by going aftermarket. If you have the GT350 air flow setup on your Bullit (I am pretty sure that is what it came with.) I would leave it factory. Just my 2 cents on the matter. Hard to do much good over Ford's top design engineers on this end, unless you have bigger plans.

I really wasn't looking for a performance gain (It's plenty fast as is...) mostly looking to see if there was any suggestions on an aftermarket filter. I've generally used K&N and like them because they aren't throw away and have always seemed to work well. Like I mentioned above, there have been some comments on the inability of the K&N type filters to filter out smaller particles. K&N has a good explanation of why this isn't accurate (I'd be shocked if they didn't) and it makes sense to me (https://www.knfilters.com/blog/how-k...pic-particles/) but there are also some myth buster articles (https://www.nicoclub.com/archives/kn-vs-oem-filter.html) that "Debunk" the K&N/oiled filter claims. While the referenced test seems above board and acknowledges, at the very end, that the K&N had a much lower flow restriction, the rest of the data was presented very negatively towards the oiled filter types. too much info... probably just stick with the OEM filter.

yeah I have read some of that contradictory information about dry versus oiled filters and I can't sort it out either, but I have a feeling the differences are very small, probably negligible for practical purposes

and I don't really know, but I think those tiny little particles that are not captured by the filter probably just go right through the engine and out the exhaust without causing any significant trouble

I'm thinking OEM is fine, not much if anything to be gained by changing it

After some more research, I'm going to split it down the middle... The Ford Performance air filter is made by AirAid which is a serviceable paper unit good to 2 microns. So, if its good enough for the Ford folks, I think I can live with it. I got mine from Steeda for $70 Ford Performance website wants $110.... Thanks

I have a K&N in my stock 2014 Mustang cold air intake. I too have used K&N on a few different vehicles. Some were even factory installed. I like not having to buy a new one every few months and throw the old one away. Just clean, oil and go. This one came with my Ford Performance Track key tune. I have read some of the articles on the subject and would have switched back to paper. It seems like 6 of one and 1/2 dozen of the other. What really kept it in the car was that it was part of a Ford setup for the car. Use was highly recommended by the Ford Performance Team tune documents. Figured good enough for Ford, good enough for me.

I use Airaid Synthamax non-oiled filters on my "06" GT and have for many years.. No negative issues whatsoever and reusable.
