IMO the GT350 and GT350R are the spiritual successors to the Boss 302 and Boss 302LS: naturally aspirated, track focused, manual gearbox, street legal beasties; while the Shelby GT is more in line with the previous Shelby GT500: supercharged, luxurious (if so wanted), automatic or manual gearbox, a drag racing oriented muscle car.

One is for racetracks, one is automotive Viagra.

Agreed. It seems like a lot of bolt on mods that we'd do to our cars anyway, except that Shelby is offering a kind of 'one size fits all' variation.

The GT350 however seems like more of a ground up, factory hot rod. That's much more appealing to me.

Will the GT350 be available as a convertible? Not that it really matters to me, given the upcharge on a drop top and the dealer mark up. It'd be beyond my pay grade.

IIRC I don't believe the original 65-66 GT350's were available in a convertible, but may had been from 67-70

either way. don't have it yet. I've started putting my lunch money in my piggy bank ;-)

Just curious where you got the price of $71K for the Shelby GT?

It is my understanding that the base Shelby GT package is $40,000 over and above the purchase price of a 2015 Mustang GT which can easily reach $40,000 especially if you go with an automatic transmission.

I suggest that the Shelby GT will be an $80,000 car when it's all said and done and could even go higher.

I looked closely at the GT350R model and the Shelby GT and know where I would put my money if one came available?

A shelby GT with all of the options including clear coat paint and $2.5k for track delivery is just over $50k. Where did 70k come from??

That's just for the package that Shelby adds. You have to supply them with a $35-45K Mustang GT to apply the package to. So You're looking at $50K + $35-45K.

I'm almost positive that the base price is the cost of the car.

No, its a post title package just like the Super Snake packages for a GT500. Shelby doesn't sell any Mustangs. You have to buy a new Mustang from a Ford dealership and pay for it. It will be delivered to Shelby in Vegas and they will install the 40-50K package onto the car and you pay for that on top of what you paid for the car.

I understand all of that but I still don't think that is correct. If you look at the super snake for instance it also includes "Base vehicle" in the price even though you supply it. BTW, Shelby can get the donor car for you which I think is what the pricing reflects. Look close at the other cats like the GTS, it also includes "Base vehicle" in the cost. I think they just re-worded "Base Vehicle" with "Base price"

I still say you can get a Shelby GT for 50k

Here's the actual link:

http://www.shelbyamerican.com/images...elbyGT_Web.pdf

It clearly states "Starting at $39,995. Does not include base vehicle, Shelby retains all take-off parts"

Press release from Ford Racing...

http://racing.ford.com/series/more-r...enthusias.html

Last paragraph....

The price of the base Shelby GT modification, not including the Ford Mustang GT, is $39,995. Customers can build their Shelby GT online or call (702) 942-7325/ (844) 974-3529.

Gordon ! What Hillbilly posted is accurate.. You pay the base price for your GT, then Ford ships the car over to Shelby American to have the Shelby GT conversion package installed.. If your base price is 40k ? you'll then add the Shelby conversion package on top of that..

So when it's all said and done, you'll be looking at around 75-80k plus destination and taxes..

I'm sure both the Shelby GT and Ford's Shelby GT350 will be recognized by SAAC, so legitimacy shouldn't be of concern.

If the guess-timates are close @$55K for the GT350, and assuming a 20% mark-up, the "affordable" Shelby is the one from the factory and the one most likely to hold it's value over time if that's important to a buyer. It's certainly more prestigious.

Frankly, if it was within my pay grade the GT350 is the no-brainer. Heck, I have my two color choices already selected once I hit the lottery...white/blue stripes, or Ruby Red with gold stripes and matte gold wheels, similar to one of the color schemes available on the '66 GT350H. And I don't need all that electronics crap!!!

I fully agree ! As Ford now owns the Shelby GT350 moniker.

IMO you're more than likely looking at between 63-70k after ADM markup, as my dealership here in western, PA would not sell the 2015 50th anniversary edition for less than 10% above MSRP.. So I really can't see the GT350's going below 15-20% above MSRP.. At least not in my area anyhow

Trust me ! I'm in the very same boat your in, as the only way I'd be able to afford either the Shelby GT or GT350 ? would be after hitting the lottery lol. However I'd also take the GT350 over the Shelby GT as well and without all the my touch/electronic crap, as I rarely ever use the CD changer in my current Stang to begin with anyhow..

In the meantime, let's hope we'll be seeing the next GT500 in the near future ? As I just don't see the GT350R as being the car to compete against the Challenger/Hellcat..

Shelby American Pumps Up the 2015 Mustang with 627-HP Shelby GT

Shelby American Pumps Up the 2015 Mustang with 627-HP Shelby GT

Shelby seems to believe that there are still a few people out there who just want to go fast. That’s why the company has released its 2015 Shelby GT...with at least 627 horsepower.

The modified hood really doesn't work for me at all. It looks like an afterthought and the bulge in the hood does not work at all with the body lines of the car.

You can almost option out a Mustang GT to $50K sticker... you sure are not going to get a 627HP Supercharged Shelby for $50K.
