2015 rear fenders

Hose rear fenders sure look like the charger and the camaro to me. Does anyone else think so?

If only in the broadest sense of having some contouring to the beltline-hips if you will-rather than a single arcing sweep so (too?) common on most of today's cars. Remember that the Mustang originally had similar contouring/hips for several styling generations, losing them by the Foxstang and not really regaining them until 2010. To be fair, somewhat the same could be said of the other two Pony cars.

In the end though, I think this more athletic beltline contouring is both good looking and somewhat distinctive and conveys well, visually through implied musculature, the performance potential of these cars. Each model does execute their own take on this with more than sufficient distinctiveness to clearly differentiate themselves from each other. I'm not sure what stylistic approach might be preferable.

I'll add to what Rhumb just posted by saying.. It was actually the Camaro and Charger that took the quarter panel/rear fender hip design from the 69-70 Mustang..

Therefore as far as I'm concerned.. It's the rear fenders on the Charger and especially the Camaro that look more like the Mustang and not the other way around despite the fact that both GM and Mopar tried their very best to re-create their own versions of Ford's design !

Yea it does look athletic as you worded it. I do like it. Didn't say I didn't. I knew they kicked the fender out 20mm to give a shelf like the 67. Didn't remember they initially took it from the mustang first- makes sense. I own a 98 stang and a 07 Charger. I do like the new generation

Seconded!

The rear at certain angles only partially favors the Camaro, that said, Ford had been considering hips and a proper fastback (err sports roof in Ford speak) since at least 2006.

The problem with the new car is the lack of side c scoop. They shouldn't have taken that away, looks very much like the Camaro in front of the rear wheels.

Ford wanted to move in a more modern direction and move away from it's previous retro styling..

Although the C scoop/hockey stick is no longer there, it's not completely gone but rather replaced with more modern sharp edge creases..

I think a lot of cars have over the years, had similar rear fenders. From the start I felt this model harkened back to the 69/70 Mach. Looking at it now, I still see those design cues plus more than a little Aston Martin!!! The rear hips are an outstanding feature of the 2015. Then again, I'm a total Koolaide drinker on the new mustang. So far I like it ALL! I hope it stays that way when I see/drive it in person.

And the picture of the Camaro is just like all the others... the shading of the hips make it look like the color changes from the rear of the door back. It absolutely drives me crazy.

Pretty much the C-Scoop was all the 94-04 had that was really considered as retro..

The 2005-14 is completely retro and when Ford designed the 15MY, they wanted to move in a completely different direction altogether..

I don't like how the doors look so close to Camaro.

That's the problem, like the Porsche 911 the styling cues of a Mustang like the c-scoop are not retro they are timeless.

They will fix it on the next remodel, kinda like they messed up the 2005-09 by not including the hips.

I've always assumed that's because the 05-09 was transitioning from the SN95 which also had a straight beltline, but increased the flare of the wheel wells in lieu of 'hips'.

I totally agree with you Chris and feel the same way.. As the C-scoops are not just retro, but are indeed timeless and a very huge part of the Mustang's 50 year heritage as well..

Which is just another fine example why I love my current 06 GT.. As it's not just retro, but also timeless as far as I'm concerned..
