2015 Photoshop/Rendering Thread
I'm really NOT trying to beat a dead horse here but I just want to go through some things. The most influential designs of automobile have been the classic Mustang and the Porsche 911. I realize that the two probably shouldn't be compared but it's hard not to. Ford eventually realized what designs worked well for the Mustang. Not to take away from the fact that the SN95 should have made way for a new Mustang design for the rest of time, but apparently Ford just wasn't happy with it. And not to say that the Mustang hasn't had a great deal of redesigns over time. Much more so than the Porsche. But the signature looks cannot be ignored.
I disagree that retro styling HAS to look OLD. The new 911 looks far from old but supremely pays homage to old 911 design. And it has been using this formula for years. I don't think that it's a stick up someone's bum that they have to have a "retro" Mustang because classic looks do not equate to "retro" necessarily. A lot of enthusiast realize that there is something to build off of there and run with it. Porsche has been able to keep it classy and updated all at the same time. So I'm going to run a few pictures here even though I don't have a lot of time to fully discuss where I'm going with this, I will try to piece it together later.

Step ONE: The term RETRO needs to be BAN for good and instead JUST focus on making a MUSTANG.

So what you're saying is that they should throw a running horse on a 911 and call it a day?

I feel ya, but at the same time, there will always be the 05-09 and 10-13 models that are retro themed and modeled after the '65. I think Ford has the right idea to try and expand the mustangs market. IMO the biggest challenge for them will be keeping it in the same price range while outperforming more expensive cars (as the current models do). Can you imagine if Ford made a Mustang that was beloved GLOBALLY? Sure, some purists might not like it, but it would be such a boost for ford to have a global icon.
As long as it doesn't look like a camaro....
Some more...
Concept T14b incorporates more conservative fog lamps and the Mach III lower lip.
Concept T16 moves the grille upward towards the hood line. My concern with the original spot is that there may not be enough room for bumper support.
Concept T17 removes the Mach III lower lip and retains the original grille spot.
Concept T18 retains original lower lip and uses T16's grille placement.

This is ABSOLUTELY what I mean. Sure, Mustang's had more bumps along the road than the 911, but Ford finally got back on track with the S197.
Whilst I know what ThePill means about the Mustang "spirit", but the problem is there are now many, many more players in that field that share a similar spirit......a performance car for the blue collar worker. Not just the Camaro and Challenger. But 370z, Genesis coupe, even Hyundai are playing the game....to name but a few.
Why choose Mustang over the competition? It won't always be because Mustang is better. It's because you buy into the history. When I look at my S197, I don't just see a car. I see glimpses of great Mustangs of the past....flashes of Steve McQueen and Parnelli Jones......of GT350s roaring around the track.......it's all these and more.
Ford don't need to reinvent the Mustang. Sure, bring the running gear up to date.....make it cleaner to the environment, make it sip less fuel...make it lighter and a bit smaller.....but all that can be done under the skin.
Porsche tried to replace the 911 with the 928. The 928 was a great car, perhaps "better" than the 911, but the core 911 fans knew what they wanted and the car never died. Today, it's still world class and you can trace its history back year by year.
I can only hope Ford do the same with Mustang. Otherwise this'll be one enthusiast with a broken heart

I completely understand but remember, searching the world for a woman that resembles your ex-wife is irrational.... You FALL in love when you least expect it, and it is usually something you never thought appealing before... I fell in love with the Mustang II, again with the '87 GT, the 1994, the New Edge, the S197 and then the 2011. Sure, they were all trim and fit, the cues that caught my eye was maybe the attitude, color, availability or just that it was a Mustang... If you want to see a broken heart enthusiast, take a look at the Camaro history... Gen 3 and 4 are awful, Gen 5 is a Chevelle... Gen 2 was overshadowed by the Bandit... Production ended in 2002... Moved to Canada in the 90s, Firebird was axed and is a slave to the Corvette...
the Corvette body that started in 1968 and who's basic shape ran until the Early 80s was Taken from John DeLorean's Original FireBird Design known as the Banshee. That became the code name for every F body concept after that.

I like the silver concept but the belt line is way too high. I'm not feeling some of these cars with the high belt line. The mustang can't go the camaro route. I really like that mad max looking design. When I first saw it I wanted to see it mixed up with the Evora concept. So thank you for doing that. Of course the whole car needs to just be production looking. But the a direction in that style would be nice. Can you photoshop the more angled Evora headlights on there instead of the horizontal style? I wish I had the skill and software to do what you can do. The hops Townes down just a touch and proportion it with the R8 that Topnotch did, I'm curious to how something like that would look.
By the way this guy at work today just bought a base model Camaro and I knew more about his car than he did lol. He also went on to say that he can keep up with this other coworkers car. He drives a 2011 5.0 with a boss intake and modified exhaust. Pretty nice stang. White with the Saleen grille, brembos, black out between the rail lamps, very clean look.

I'm liking the front fascia but I agree that the car needs some tweaking overall. I definitely see some potential there though. It's similar to what I was attempting to convey in my crappy PS attempt, except with more of a '69 twist.
