i wish they would just bring back the Torino as a full size RWD, i'ld get one in a second.. i had to go out and buy a Charger cause Ford is MIA in the department

I agree I miss the RWD options Ford used to have. Personally I'd like a RWD. Charger competitor and maybe a coupe version of the same platform ( I have a soft spot for the 80s and 90s Thunderbird)

I'd love to see a large RWD sedan. Torino or Galaxie are names they could bring back. But I don't think there is enough market for another Ford RWD coupe. An up market Lincoln would be a better bet

+1 for the torino.. love that car. I agree there's no room in the lineup for another RWD coupe. With mustang sales falling as they have been, I doubt they want to hurt it even more with cannibalization.

Perhaps a fusion or taurus based coupe? Nissan and Honda make it work.

Maybe...but how many sales would that possibly take from the V6 mustang? Honda and Nissan don't have a 2+2 sports coupe already in their lineup for around the same price point as the Accord and Altima coupe

While its certainly not my favorite Mustang time period it was still a Mustang. Although I do think GM did a better job keeping their pony cars somewhat performance minded. Like a previous poster said, without the II there wouldn't be 50 years.
A VW Beetle has a long hood and a short deck too, but it doesn't make it a Mustang. The fuel crisis that occurred just as the II was coincidentely hitting the showrooms is the only thing that probably saved the II from being remembered as the Edsel of the 70's.

I tend to side with the Edmunds.com list of the 100 worst cars of all time description, where the Mustang II is only edged out by the Pontiac Aztek for the top slot at the bottom of the barrel:

"1974 Ford Mustang II: Built upon the spindly bones of the Pinto, this shrunken, malformed pony is instantly appalling to Mustang lovers. And, unfortunately, hugely popular with buyers stuck with serial fuel crises"

The II was at best a sort of sad placeholder in Mustang history.

Though not in an identical position Nissan does offer 3 coupes, 4 if you count the infinity G37.
They have the supercar GT-R, 370Z and the altima coupe. All three are coupes but with very different buyers in mind for them.

Personally I'd be interested in a FWD or AWD coupe and as much as I love the mustang it doesn't fill that need.

And none of them sell particularly well...the G37 would be similar to a Lincoln. The 370z and Altima coupe are close...but 4 seat fwd compared to a 2 seat rwd and there is a pretty good price gap between the Z and Altima.
Where the 2 door Taurus or Fusion would be similar to the mustang in size, seats and price. Only real difference is fwd vs rwd. I think they are a cool idea, but can't see ford spending the money to design a car that will steal from the Mustang which is their halo car

I could see a sporty fusion coupe entering the line-up to compete with 4cyl coupe variants from other manufacturers and maybe a ecoboost v6 motor detuned so it wont interfere with v6 mustang sales in ʻ15 depending on the power rating

And anyone that can read knows they aren't of the mustang. The clay models are of the fusion and a fastback, old design studies. Ford already denied they were of the new Mustang ... so why not read the article smart one? Already 5-6 topics on these
