The 2015 Mustang will determine my next car

I love my Boss 302. It has made me fall in love with performance driving in a way that has been lacking seriously in my life since the early to mid nineties. I've been lucky enough to own a lot of nice cars, but this car hits me on an emotional level. It's a visceral joy ride. But...

I want more. The car is too heavy, the belt line is too high, it takes too long to get comfortable with its performance envelope, it's interior is far too cheap, bordering on nasty. And there's a sense that the engineers still hit accountant led compromises.

But none of that matters at my local track or back road. But sadly, I don't get enough of that and I actually find myself grabbing the keys for my winter beater far more than I should for errands.

I've been thinking of getting a 911, or perhaps the new Vette, a used Aston or based on recent reviews maybe an F-type. The thinking has progressed to researching and arranging drives.

But I hate throwing money around, and I'm not a brand snob. I realize that if the new Mustang can deliver the aural and visceral thrill of my current car in a lighter, more solid and toss-able package with fit and finish above, rather than below a Focus (as it should be), Ford will have my money again. So I wait. And I hang on each and every tidbit of info I can find... online, in the press, on this site and from the fine folks at Ford themselves.

I really believe that this car will be the spiritual successor to the original, a car that with the right options (or model spec and trim) will bring the pure pleasure of driving and car ownership back to the masses. Come in Ford, I'm counting on you. So I wait, while courting temptation from others.

Oh and can you have a word with Ford Canada and your dealer network so they don't botch this, and I believe thousands of other sales?

basically feeling the same thing as you. based on the design, weight, and power of the 2015 mustang, I could be ordering one when it is available. wanted to pick up a 2011 california special but something about the heftiness for a young kid like me pushed me away. that was a huge mistake though ahaha. if i could redo it all, i would have picked it up. the amount i put into my 335i, i could have put in the mustang and would have been way better off.

same boat here, hoping for a tremendous vehicle that is as much as step up in technology and fit/finish as it is in dynamics. tho a p-car is way out of my budget an M4 might be able to squeeze in, but most likely ill grab a 435i with the ppk and limited slip if the mustang doesn't come through

I have a 2012 Boss 302 and I love the darn thing. I thought about a 2015, but I would never get a first year car, so then I'm waiting until 2016 at least.

Agreed. From what we are hearing so far, the GT will come with the same 5.0L which is just not enough for me. At the least I would have to see a forged 5.0L that will hold up with a big blower. I really don't care what the new mustang looks like. It needs beast potential before ill buy it.

I agree with you 100%, this is what pushed me into the BMW fold with first a E46 M3 and now on my 2nd E92 M3.

I am in a wait and see with the 2015 Mustang. I just got a new 2013 BMW M3 that when the lease is up in 2016 the Mustang will be out a year or so and I will see what transpires. I love the look of the new M4 that is coming out but I really want to stay normally aspirated.

Love the new 991S, but they start out at just under $100k.

Have you driven a new E92 M3? Darn near the same performance of the Boss without the shortcomings of the interior and size. Granted its a lot more money as well.

BRZ/FRS sucks. The focus ST guys wont trade and a mustang guy shouldn't even more so.

I am in the same boat. I would trade my St in for the new mustang if its good. If not I am keeping my ST and will start to mod it.

sucks? as in slow? yea it does suck then. Im not going to race anyone tho, the only thing i do is take my car to the canyons and enjoy the ride. (my stang isnt the best fun car). a BRZ/FRS with a turbo... would be crazy fun in the canyons from what ive heard. I want a car with a good fun factor too.

Have you driven a Toyobaru twin? They are so fun. Slow as hell, but it doesn't give you that sensation. You can drive it 8/10s and still be at the speed limit. The shifter is like a bolt action rifle. The clutch is a bit springy, but I got used to it. The interior is cheap, but the experience isn't about creature comfort. I just can't swallow the price though - for $25-30k, that gets me into an 03-04 Cobra or used 11+ 5.0. But then I'm back to - I can't use that power where I live. The FR-S I rented, allowed me to have fun everywhere I live. Maybe in 5 years, I'll pick up a used one for like 12-15 and hoon it around as a daily drifter.

I wouldn't really go for a 435i if you're looking for power as well. Nice looking car but BMW really messed up 2011 and beyond by putting in the n55 single turbo. Very hard to get those fast. I know. I own one hahaha

Beast potential sounds great but don't forget a blown 5.0 today is making 600 rwhp and 525 - 500 rwtq. That's actually quite a beast unless you want a track only car. Which if that's the case why buy brand new anyway?

You beat me to it Tom! Just saw a member post a thread with a Roush blower install on the 5.0 making 592 rwhp! 600 rwhp with a simple blower install out of a 30k car! That's pretty awesome IMO! What type of beast beast potential are you referring too?? You want Shelby 1000 beast potential for the 2015?

Interestingly the Boss brought me back to North American cars after 5 BMWs in a row. But the fact is, I miss some elements of their refinement. Build quality though, I'd rate as a tie. Numerous issues with each and every Bimmer I owned.
As for the M3 I had prior to my 335i coupe, it was far easier to drive fast compared to the Boss thanks to the IRS, but it would never have survived the beating I give the Boss on a track day.

I had a FR-S and you'll probably even need more than a turbo to be satisfied. Fun car to be sure but lacking in power big-time.

I'm in the same boat but with a 13 Boss. I love it but have a love of cars so I tend to go through them like underwear. Surprisingly I've had my Boss over a year which is impressive for me. It all depends on the 2015 if I stay in a Mustang or look elsewhere.

I have had a few goes in one. The outside looks nice and I like things about it. But I do not like the car as a whole. The car is very slow. The ride is rough for a stock car. The interior is plastic and awful. The layout of the buttons and golden zone reach point(ergo) was way way off. The price is greater then a focus ST1 pack or even a st2 pack car. You also have to live with the fact you own a scion or a Subaru that looks like a scion. Plus its kind of a high school girl car. Kind of the new geo storm, Celica or Tiburon.

I could go on but I have to head to dinner. I think I made the point. P

I hear ya. Like I said, for the price, you just don't get much. The fact that's it's RWD is it's only saving grace. I didn't mind the ride, but I'm also used to my GT on coilovers. Stock, it looks pretty weak. But throw some SSRs on and it looks beastly. Idk about the exhaust note though - stock, it reminds me of an old school Beetle.

Im young and idgaf about flashy interior, even though im not in high school anymore Ive never seen a girl driving a brz/frs, and its nothing like those cars that you mentioned ^ . I do like the focus but i hate fwd, so there is no way im ever going to buy a fwd vehicle.

You have obviously never seen what a turbo can do to these cars
