The 2015 Mustang at the NY Auto Show
I was at the NY Auto Show this weekend which was wonderful. I wanted to see, among many other cars, the 2015 Mustang so I proceeded to the Ford displays.
I noticed three Ford Fusions, viewed from the front, against a far wall and I wondered why so many people were looking at them. As I got closer I realized they were not Fusions, they were Mustangs! What a huge disappointment! The design seemed very derivative and reminded me of many cars including this one:

As part of the Ford display, there was also a Ruby Red 2014 GT Premium, loaded with every conceivable option, and that car had quite a crowd around it too. To my eyes, it was so much more nicely designed than the 2015; more aggressive, more "Mustang," more desirable. Of course that's just my opinion and I'm sure many others wouldn't agree with me. I am happy I will be taking delivery of a 2024 GT Premium, Ruby Red, in about a week. Before I saw the 2015 I wondered if I should wait for the next generation.

I was not at the show but could not agree more with this assessment.
BTW - I believe that was the car for which Ford sued Toyota, an won, due to a strong resemblance to the Mustang II. So what you are saying is the new 2015 Mustang has design cues from the Mustang II.
LOL :-)

And I also strongly support the OPs review. I see a bunch of 2015 M-Plates running around Detroit, and I am yet to like one. If you can't tell a Mustang from a Fusion there is something horribly wrong. I had a feeling the new Mustang would turn out Fusion like, and I ordered a 2014 GT TP last summer. Very happy I did after seeing a few 2015s on the road.I am a bit jealous of the Boss pieces in the 2015, the IRS, and the interior though.
This oh so typical response from some who own the current model. I don't see any great resemblance between the Fusion and the Mustang. Ford had a tough job in styling the new Mustang. They wanted to bring it up to modern standards while keeping some of the styling cues that the car has been known for. If you are driving behind a new Fusion and a New Mustang and you can't tell them apart, head directly for the eye doctor...
Get bionic eyes?
On another note, I don't really see the similarities everyone is pointing out. Could just be that I haven't really looked closely at a Fusion over the years.

Looks nothing like a Fusion nor a celica. Much more agressive looking than the Fusion, which in its own right is a good looking car. The current Mustang and previous classic generation had similar grille opening and it has been shown here repeatedly with pics. You're ignorant and just repeating talking points.....If anything the Fusion got a similar nose to previous Mustangs. Anyway your opinion is in the minority as Ford is going to sell a boatload of these cars. Also they significantly date the current model. I like the 13-14 mustangs but you're nuts if your choosing one over a 2015.
Hey look the current generation Mustang that the Fusion copied:

And wow look at this, Fusion was even inspiring the Mustang in the late 1960s somehow?

Its the same argument going on with the Charger about the new front end. Everyone calling it a large dart yet it is more like the '68 charger than the current which reminds me of the '75. The only thing i dis like on both the Mustang and Charger are the wrap around headlights.

i thought the NYIAS was great as always, so much to see, so little time. the 2015 Mustangs look fantastic, i was hoping the Guard color would be there but unfortunately was not. Dodge Challenger is really going retro w/the fully functional Shaker hood scoop and, as a Scat Pac option, quad exhaust. i found odd the Z/28 was kinda just off to the corner on their display floor with no Product Specialist presentation, very low key. the Z06 was getting all the attention. some pix to enjoy...
