2015 design changes
2015 design changes
I don't hate the 2015, it's not that bad. I just think the 2014 looks better.
With that being said, I wonder if the 2010-2014 was never made, if those that "hate" the style of the 2015 would think it's an improvement over the 2005. I like the 2015 better than the 2005 style and had they been back to back, I think I would have liked the 2015 even better. I just don't see how they can top the 2013-2014 style.

No "they" didn't . . .
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder as we all know. Plenty of people will find the 2015 to be an attractive car and buy it. Good, that means the Mustang will stay around, hopefully for another 50 years. Plenty of others don't find the 2015 attractive and we are already hoping the redesign improves the issues we have with it. Regardless of which camp we find ourselves in I think we can all agree that we like the Mustang and hope that it is a lasting model for generations of would be drivers to come.

I like the 2015 and i think its a great Mustang for most people and they will love it. It will also increase the number of Mustang owners which in turn will increase the Mustang community and thats a good thing! That being said the 2014 is my absolutely favorite mustang. There is no angle of this car that i dont like, its just perfect to me! Especially the front end which takes me back to the 60's Mustangs, and the rear sequential tail lights! Ill probably never sell mine ;-)

Honestly I think the '05-'09 cars were butt ugly when new, and are even more so today (no offense to owners of those years). '13-'14 is the pinnacle of the S197 IMO.
The way I see the '15, is that yeah it isn't a bad looking car, but just think how bad it's going to look after the refresh. If you trade cars all the time, no big deal, pick up a '15 now and another one at the refresh, bit if you keep cars a long time, better to get the tail end of the body style IMO.

I'm also in the "I prefer the looks of my S197" camp. That doesn't mean the 2015 isn't a good looking car. It is, and I'm sure I'll be just as excited to see one on the road as I am with a '65, a Fox, or another S197. And I'll give the S550 the Mustang salute...a friendly wave or a thumbs up, in recognition of a mutual passion and acknowledgement of our shared DNA.
This is a better thread for this double post. :-)
As I love the 13-14, I can't count how many times I have mistaken a newer model for an 05-09. From the front and rear view it's easy to tell the difference but from certain side angles or when people mod the front ends on their newer stangs it looks like the previous 05-09s. Same old body style. It's been almost 10 years with this body style and I'm glad for made big changes in the 2015 model.

Not my intent of the topic at all. My intent was more to question those who don't necessarily care for the 2015 as to where the think the redesign should have gone with the 2015. I wonder myself how many sketches behind closed doors at Ford were tossed around. Any body style would get stale in a few years so my question is, what did everyone expect and how would they have done it any different than Ford did.

I'll take a crack at that. Personally I think the 2015 is 90% gorgeous and 10% ugly, but that ugly is in the most important part of the car, that being the front end.
I love the new interior, it looks awesome
I love that Ford decided to incorporate independent rear suspension and I think that's going to help the performance of the car somewhat.
I love the profile body lines and the way they have designed the rear end.
My only complaint is that Ford insisted on putting the Aston Martinish design language on the Mustang that they are using on the Fusion, Taurus, Focus and Fiesta. That wouldn't be such a bad thing except that on the front end of the Mustang it just came out looking like crap. I'm not going to get all into detail about what a bad design it is on the front end of the Mustang but suffice to say it doesn't look good and to me how the front end of a sports car looks is vitally important.
Personally I've never understood the corporate mindset that cars in the same brand must share the same design language. It's nonsense. Does anyone here actually think that the world would not have known that the 2015 Mustang was a Ford even without the corporate look on the front end? You don't see Chevy trying to make the Camaro or the Corvette look like their passenger sedans. You don't see Dodge trying to make the Challenger look like a Dart or a Charger. There is a good reason for that and that is that those cars don't need that to be recognized for what they are. The Mustang didn't need it either.

Looking at Ford's preliminary internal design sketches, I can see what the '15 could have, and perhaps should have been even though it's a moot point now that the design is set in stone. In this video that most of you might remember, freeze the video at :16 seconds. Notice the sketch of the white Mustang, second from top, second column. I think that should have been the preliminary front end design out of all the options presented. Of course, it could be further refined from the preliminary sketch but this is a front end design I could really get behind.
Then skip to 1:25. The side and rear design of Theme C is by far the most attractive to me. The basic shape and profile of the car is exactly the same on all three themes but Theme C looks much more attractive to me. It's cleaner and has all the right Mustang design cues in the same modern shape as Theme A, which they ultimately chose. The elements of Theme C that I particularly like are the slight upturn of the lower bodyside character line and the lack of the extra upper character line that continues to the rear of the rear wheel arch (one of my biggest pet peeves on my '13). I hate that extra, truncated body line. The rear end of Theme C is awesome from what I can see of it.
I suppose there is the issue of whether Theme C is too retro. Well, to answer that, I remind you that it is the exact same shape and profile as Theme A which they ultimately chose. If the production car is considered a modern shape, then Theme C would also have to be considered a modern shape. The difference is (to me) that Theme C looks naturally like a Mustang should (in a modern shape) while the details of the production design look awkward and forced.
