As somebody noted, color choices are very limited. First year of the mustang they had like 40 different colors, so why can't they do that now?

Guard is definitely a metallic green, as seen on the 2015 shown at the Philadelphia Auto show. I liked it a lot, looks like an Aston Martin color. Doesn't look like that much in this picture, but is is far from gray.

First year of the Mustang was a different era, for one, and another, those colors were just available across the board in various other models, so acquiring the paint wasn't difficult. And finally, when you're making 600,000 ponies across 4 or 5 plants, a lot of colors isn't hard to deal with if it means selling more. Mustang was *blazing hot* and they couldn't satisfy people fast enough.

Compare to today where it's one plant, a rather niche in terms of production output, and components are NOT all painted on site or in the same paint run (bumpers, for one) and you have an economy of scale and a problem of production to deal with.

Further, it's not like people order cars and wait for them these days, so the dealerships want something generic that WILL sell. Hence, there's 5 or 6 shades of grey (including the black and white colors) and a Red, because Red is Red and sells well, and then 3 other wilder colors, maybe a fourth if you're lucky, and that's it. And two interior colors, maybe three if they feel magnanamous and wanna spend the money that'll take to do.

Oh, sure, Ford will make the Orange and the Electric Blues and such because Mustang, and a few here and there will be sprinkled, but the dealers BUY the cars, so they go with plain but sellable, because it's their money on the line, not Fords. Ford just 'suggests' they sell more V6s, 'suggests' they sell a few standards, both of which aren't that wanted by the public (until they see the monetary problem, of course), but they're sort of forced to do it, so better get what will sell to just about anyone, rather than a one off Orange with the stripes and hella wing GT with 6 speed, but in tan cloth.

To ensure the odd colors make it out there, there is a quota of certain colors and packages and engine sizes and transmissions and wheel sizes and all that that is expected for the dealer to buy so they don't buy *ALL* Red/black leather stick GTs. Also, previous sales has to do with a dealership's allocation, and how many they get next month.

And since the dealerships buy them.. ordering one still counts against their allocation. So if you decide you WANT that Orange one as described, you can wait until it's built. And you might wanna go with a not-small dealership in that case, because in the past, that's been a fun thing to get the car when it's brand new designed. Lots of bad stories happen at the smaller dealerships due to the allocation thing.

All this is a long winded, complicated (like the process) way to say "It's not cost effective for them to offer 40 colors."

---

Oh, and while there's Orange...

Still no Emberglo.

I like Ruby Red, Magnetic, and Guard. I want the Shelby GT 350 but I have heard there will be less color choices for it.

I'm all over Competition Orange if/when I buy one...
but have we really seen a decent picture of this color yet? Even the "color thread" in this forum has poor representation from CO...it's either an ugly color on this car or the lighting is weird.

I've posted a few screenshots of CO from Instagram in the "Post actual pictures outside" thread. They're in natural lighting.

go to your local car show one day and find a 2004 mach 1 or 2012 boss 302.
its the same comp orange on them, same paint code...same everything.
then you will know what it looks like in person...just picture it on a new 2015....use the imagination...
