I too think the Cougar II would have been a winner. I always loved that car. I kinda remember seeing it at an auto show in the 60s - but at my age, I could be making that up.

Cougar II was sexy indeed. I used to have a Testors model of that car.
It was obviously inspiration for the 2003 Mercury Messenger Concept.

 

That c scoop on the concept car would look nice on a Mustang, just facing the other direction of course.
