Question about New Mustang Warranty
I have recently purchased a 2014 Mustang V6 dib and with it purchased the "Premium" B-B extended warranty. I have always done my own service work and most repairs and have done so for many years without any problems. BUT when I purchased this Mustang (2014) I was told by the dealership that if I did my own service work ( oil changes, etc.) I would void the cars warranty. They also said that if I didn't bring the car in at 15k miles and get a "compete service", that would cost $1k to have done, then Ford would not stand behind the warranty.
My question is; how much of this is true?
I just sold a 2010 V6 Fusion w/ 37k miles (a great car) and did all the service,on it myself....was told by the service manager to keep all receipts for the Motorcraft oil and filters, record all work on "Ford Owners" website,(and I did), then Ford would be ok with that....I bought the Fusion from a different dealer then the Mustang. But this dealer said " that ain't
no good.....the work has to be certified!" Is this what it has come to?
Thanks, Tom

Thanks AzPete......that's a good idea...I found a toll free number in the "Warranty
Guide" booklet to call Ford about warranty issues, so I will find out from them what
their guidelines are about an owner servicing their own car under warranty.
When I find out I will post it on this thread.

As per your Warranty Guide:
MAINTAIN YOUR VEHICLE PROPERLY
Your glove compartment contains an Owner’s Manual which indicates
the scheduled maintenance required for your vehicle. Proper
maintenance guards against major repair expenses resulting from neglect
or inadequate maintenance, may help increase the value you receive
when you sell or trade your vehicle, and is important in allowing your
vehicle to comply with applicable emissions standards.
It is your responsibility to make sure that all of the scheduled
maintenance is performed and that the materials used meet Ford
engineering specifications. Failure to perform scheduled maintenance as
specified in the Owner’s Manual will invalidate warranty coverage on
parts affected by the lack of maintenance. Make sure that receipts for
completed maintenance work are retained with the vehicle and
confirmation of maintenance work is always entered in your Owner’s
Manual.
I hope this helps.

Thank You Deysha I read that last night and it does seem to indicate that the car
owner can do his or her own service inside these guide lines.
I followed this procedure with my 2010 Fusion and also entered all records to my car
on "Ford Owners" website, ...that is the website that the dealer used to log all their
records for that car as well.
The dealer I bought this Mustang from is very close to the DC area......me thinks they
might be greatly influenced by their politician neighbors! lol
