Oil change.

quick question.

I took my car into dealer for my first oil change at 4000 miles. As i was reading the invoice, I saw they used 5W20 (8) but they said i need to come back 7000 miles..? I thought 2011 mustang GTs are using Syn Oil and have 10,000 miles per oil change..? I'm just confused.. is 5W20 is syn oil?

5w20 just refers to the weight and viscosity of the oil. It should have been labeled as a synthetic oil change on the invoice.

Normally, if they suggest to come back in 7K miles, they put in synthetic. Conventional oil should be changed at about 3K-3500 miles.

If you are worried about it, call your service writer and ask him what oil they put in a Coyote motor and if they know what was put in yours.

thanks, well looking at the invoice.. my next service is at 7000 miles meaning i have 3000 miles left.. I thought 2011 mustangs came out as using synthetic.. but i guess they used regular oil not synthetic one.. yea, i'll give them a call thanks!

The 2011 comes with 5W-20 Synthetic Blend Motorcraft oil. And, that is usually what the dealers will replace it with. My dealer used the synthetic blend, which I realized as I was paying for it, and saw the low cost of $49. I told them I wanted full synthetic and to only use that for future changes. They changed it out and did not charge me for the first change. I go a little overboard because of where I live, very hot summers, and very cold winters, so I change it every 5000 miles. I do one change and let the dealer do one to keep the warranty intact, to total the 10000 miles. I would suggest you read your owners manual (not trying to be a smart a$$). Ford provides a lot of useful information on how to maintain the car.

I just had my first one at 2k. I asked for full synthetic and the service guy laughed and said "are you sure?" I said why like a dummy to find out full synthetic was $150!! Needless to say I went with the synthetic blend. I swear my 02' 4.6 was only like $69, but then again that was 5 years ago.
