mostly kidding as I've spent most of my life in california. There are good mechanics everywhere, I don't mind being watched with what I do (it's part of my job as I'm also a trainer and the local expert in my field), however if I were a mechanic I would want space. I'll always give space and not test the boundaries, unless it is a risk to my car. I felt no risk, and I'm sure the guy looking at my car and filling the quart of oil didn't feel I was intruding. I helped the guy get to the dip stick, watched him open the oil cap, he started pouring the oil (with a rag around the entrance), no spill, I walked away, let him finish. You must be respectful to those whom you want respect from. I do not want a bad relationship with my dealer, stuff happens, delays (from what I hear), maybe more? I'm professional in what I do, I hope my mechanic will be to if I treat them well.
let's not digress this thread to a bash, we've all had bad mechanics and good ones, the good ones rock! the bad ones we leave behind.

this type incident is becoming more common place year after year.
writing this off as a inept service advisor is doing the customer and the industry a disservice. an advisor that does not explore the customers problem should be driving the courtesy shuttle. these are the guys that i will rely on to communicate a technical problem with my car in laymans terms so the tech does not have stop what he's doing and tell me himself.
not being sensitive about the whole issue, but its gotta stop somewhere. walking these types of problems up the chain of command will result in more attentive staff members and better service for other customers.
the auto industry is CSI driven (more now than ever) and dealers need people on their toes at all time to achieve good numbers. If the dealer resolves your problem to your satisfaction give them a high rating and leave out the problematic stuff, but if youre still struggling to get them to help you fix something... let it be known in the survey.
but you didnt hear that from me .....

I've had my own share of problems at the place i bought my car from (Beach Ford Va. beach). After three or four times of horrible service i just never go to a dealership for work. I've found one in my area that actually does a good job but i'll only go if it is major work. Customer service is almost null these days!
I had customer service issues when I bought my car. It makes me a little hesitant to take my car there for it's first service. Although it's "free" for the first oil change I don't know if I want to deal with the free lack of attention to detail that will keep me going there. There are two other dealerships in the area that I could take my car to and one I won't ever go to again. They lost a sale because they didn't even ask me one question for 20 minutes while I was looking to buy. I had the same thing happen at the Nissan dealer right down the street from my house. I guess they didn't want my money. Every once in a while I cruise through there and wave.
