Mustang vert tire and wheel issue see pics

My wife has a 2011 Dub convertible we bought the car in May and it has been in 4 times for the steering wheel shaking the rims are 20" TIS model 16's originally the weights were mounted inside the wheels, the weights fell off and were rattling around and the steering wheel was shaking and the passenger seat was bouncing back and forth, the car has been back 3 more times for the same thing and now the dealer placed rows of stick on wheel weights to the finished machined part of the wheel, not only does it look hideous at 50 mph the steering wheel still shakes. I will try to load some pictures when my wife comes home, very dissapointed that Ford will not just replace the wheels and tires and just make it right.

I sent Deysha a PM but did not get a response.

Sounds like a bad tire or wheel. Have your dealer do a road force balance. Not a regular balance. Garantee a tire is bad

They have replaced one tire already. Ford blames Roush since they (roush) put the package on. Roush says this is the "New Method" for balancing the TIS wheels. We took the car back again today the steering wheel still shakes at 50. I guess lemon law here we come, sad really that Ford will just not replace the wheels and tires all 4 of them have the weights on there like that. Very dissapointed

Take to a tire shop and ask them to road force test them and print the results if they can. Something is amiss here. Try to get the road force weight rating and post them here. I want to see what its rating them at. They can also use the machine to determine if its a tire or a wheel issue. Also rotate the front to the back if you can.

There is no way a wheel should need that much weight, and a professional will balance it with weights properly mounted on the inside of the wheel. I agree with the other posters, take it to a tire shop and have them do it. Their computer will provide a printout for you. That photo shows a real "keystone cop" approach...

The car is back at the dealer now, they did provide me an F150 to drive while they look at it. I don't blame the dealership they have been very nice, the issue seems to be between Ford and Roush. I am worried about the shake when my wife drives the car and the possibility of her being in an accident, also getting a flat or when the tires wear out, what damage will that glue do to the finish of the wheels when the weights are removed and who will be responsible for that. As soon as I get the car back I will take it to a tire shop, what tire chains have the road force machine so I can get that print out. I appreciate you guys help !

yea I wouldn't be happy at all with where those weights were placed. I've never seen them on the outside of the rim like that. Bad tire is a good possibilty also. How many miles are on the car?

All tire chains that I know of have them. Even the dealer has them. Just no one actually uses it unless someone requests it.

Hey rmagni,

You should be receiving a call from the Customer Service Manager assigned to your case in a little while. This will help get this resolved for you.

Thanks Deysha!

CSM Andrea called me today to follow up on the repair. I'm going to pick the car up this afternoon. The service writer said the weights are off the finished surface and they are now balanced, hopefully the problem is resolved.

I have an 11 MCA coupe mine has been great. We love the cars, the convertible is the first car we have had with aftermarket wheels. I'm sure there are good ones out there, but stock wheels only for me !

That’s great, rmagni. I can’t wait until she can enjoy her cool ride again. BTW, I love the fact that she’s the one with the really cool car. I like her already!

No shakes no shimmy no vibration (but) I left the dealership and within a few miles the low tire pressure light came on. I put air in the tire and the light came on again this morning. I called Mike Shad today, and they went to my wifes work picked up the car and found the bead did not seat when the tire was remounted, after fixing it they brought it back to her! no weights on the outside of the wheels. The service manager told me it took alot of time to get the wheels to balance right. Hopefully Ford will not use those wheels anymore. As far as Mike Shad Ford, they really stepped up to make sure the wheels would balance they even detailed the whole car while it was there. And most important my wife is happy! Thanks to Deysha and Mike Shad Ford!
