Hey Guys,

Quick question for you all. I'm getting a pinging/detonation sound under a hard accelartion or under a load in my 2014 mustang. Took it to the dealership who reset the computer in it and did a flash update and said just run 87 octane but when ever I run 87 I get this pinging/rattling. Sounds like marbles in a can. It also happens running 91 but a little less.

What could be causing this? I fill up at Chevron.

That's a strange one for sure. I've run both 87 and 93 and never had a ping issue. Chevron is tier one gasoline so we know it's not a cheap gas issue. Is there any possibility you're getting water into the system somewhere?

 

Not likely to be pinging or even the engine at all. Gear rollover noise sounds exactly as you describedescribe, and is for the most part normal.

 

I have never had any pinging or sound resembling pinging before. I would only run high octane for a while and use a different gas station.

 

The panacea: clean and/or test the MAF.
