High Speed Rear Axle Whine
High Speed Rear Axle Whine
my 2014 "Track Pack car" has some gear wine Whine around 75 mph. if you go over 75mph to like 85 or 95 it disappears, is this normal. The car runs outstanding in every way. I have 1700 miles on it now, it has done this since it was new.
Thanks
Thanks
I have also noticed slight gear wine in 6th gear mostly when letting off the accelerator. Not terrible but it is there. Like most, I have happy with the car and would hate to have the dealer screw with it for what I consider a minor issue. I don't consider it normal or abnormal, just the way it is. There is the possibility having it serviced could result in even more issues created by the dealer trying eliminate the wine. If it gets worse I will have them look at it, until then I will listen to the radio and exhaust note.
That gear wine tastes so bad. They can never get the petroleum taste out of it, and I also understand it might give you intestinal disorders and possibly cancer. It really doesn't pair with anything else. And seriously, this stuff and a cigar? You might call it an 'explosive' coupling, but you might also be literally blown away by the experiment.
I don't recommend anyone actually buy it and consume it, and it's just awful it's on the shelves at all, even if it's sorta rare to find it at...
What?... What do you mean... Oh! Y'all mean *'whine'*! My bad, sorry, ignore me.
/Actually... I like the idea of that being a label... Wine for gearheads...
//Aaand, looks like I could get it too.
///In all seriousness, you will have some gear whine, as there's no real way to eliminate all of it, harmonics and such, but you really should compare it to another Mustang of same year and configuration. Ask a service writer to arrange for that to happen, they might can fix ya up to see. And what Bill said, might make things worse if you muck with it.

My '13 track pack has this too. You can hear it at highway speeds when you transition on/off the gas. I thought about taking it in, but decided it's not worth the hassle. It's barely audible right now, so dealer would probably just say it's normal/expected.

I recommend getting them checked out at your dealer as soon as possible. Then, PM me with your VIN, dealer, full name, mileage, and best daytime number so I can escalate this to the customer service manager for your area.

SHAME ON US SMARTASSES!!!
Had my gears replaced by the dealer twice ... 3.73s. It's still there. Not horrible but my 99 with an 8.8 and 3.55s is silent. I'll live with it and try some different fluid in a year or so maybe that will help, who knows.
